Gem Starks – Jet Pack: Flight Up

Gem Starks debut mix tape Jet Pack: Flight Up. This is the first installment from the upcoming 3 part mixtape series. This project is the culmination of 3 months of recording (mainly on the road) and Gem figuring out who Gem is and what he wants to portray. Gem says this process of traveling and mobile recording rushed some things but on the other hand gave him a great perspective of the entire Northwest and different demographics.

This particular volume of the series follows the perspective of one’s growth into the person they want to be and the different scenarios that go into play within that growth. For example “Jetpack,” is a song that discusses one wanting more for himself, his family, and friends. While dreaming of better days for everyone around him is a thought, it carries on into the song “changes” where you hear of this individual becoming self aware of this and what it might take for this to manifest. Some might look at the philosophical meanings behind some songs and the overall project but be setback by “Too Gone” which is an all around slapping single that at first listen might seem to glorify the party life. Most of us have a place for a single, or a party record in our lives but this track still bleeds Gem’s personality through a different look. You will catch many sounds on here in a commercially acceptable all around artist from the Northwest.
