Artist Discovery Spotlight: RMR Interviews HAL-V And SpaceCase

Recently, I got in touch with Portland duo HAL-V & SpaceCase to learn about what it’s like to be in their shoes. These guys have been a well-recognized duo in the Portland music scene for a while, and it was fun getting to see how they tick.

From musical taste to nicknames to shooting the shit about what would be their favorite superpowers, it’s clear these guys have chemistry together as a pair. Check out the full interview below!

RMR Interviews HAL-V & SpaceCase

RMRI’ve heard jokes that you two are like the Bill and Ted of electronic music. Why is that? Do you guys go on a lot of awesome adventures?

HAL-V: Haha, we love that movie and have been called that in the past. We like to stay positive and keep a laid-back attitude in life, while always aiming to have fun. so, I guess it stuck!

SpaceCase: Every show for us is an excellent adventure! We tend to go with the flow when traveling, which results in lots of new experiences and some pretty awesome times all around.

RMRIf you guys could have any superpowers, what would they be?

HAL-V: For me, it would have to be Dr. Manhattans powers. Showing people the world from outer space would be wicked!

SpaceCase: My superpower would be teleportation. Just think of how much you could accomplish if you didn’t have to sit in traffic!

RMRI’d like to know your thoughts about the Portland EDM scene. How do you feel about the fans and music goers in your city, versus other areas?

HAL-V: Portland fans are amazing! They have our hearts. We love how people here stay genuinely intrigued by what we and other artists do. They actually bother to ask questions or advice on things they’re interested in. This is great because I love to give knowledge where I can, and vice versa. Portland fans do a great job in representing what EDM is about, and that’s love. Whether it’s just for one another or for the music, that is something special that should be shared across the country & world.

SpaceCase: Portland is amazing! We have some of the most dedicated and loving fans and a plethora of talented producers and DJs. I have not done much traveling outside of the NW, but I’ve found that, so far, most of the events I have traveled to have similar vibes to our shows here.

RMRIf you were at a party full of music producers, what would be the ultimate party foul?

HAL-V: Asking everyone to collab, haha!

SpaceCase: Hogging the AUX cord and only playing your own music!

RMR: Do you recall the best performance you’ve had together? If not, what kind of performances have you enjoyed the most?

HAL-V: It’s soo hard for me to choose the best show! I love them all. The big festivals and shows feel amazing, but the small intimate ones feel equally as good, if not better! When the energy is right, it’s right!

SpaceCase: We have a blast at every performance! We have gotten the opportunity to play some epic festivals such as Global Dub Festival, Freaknight, Get Freaky, and Foam Wonderland. Those were all truly amazing and some of the biggest crowds we have ever played for. That being said, some of my fondest memories have also been from our earlier shows, playing in basements for crowds of like 10 people. Like HAL-V said, so far, we’ve loved all of our shows together.  Any opportunity we have to share our music is truly a blessing.

RMRIf you could go back in time to the night you both had your first show together, what would you have to say to your younger selves?

HAL-V: Stay true to each other and your friends. Don’t take anything for granted, and enjoy the ride! Don’t take life too seriously.  Just be happy and work hard every day for what you want!

SpaceCase: Have fun and don’t stress the bullshit!

RMRWhat kind of music can you absolutely not stand? (It can be any genre).

HAL-V: Most Death metal, newer country music, and probably Nickleback (Sorry guys).

SpaceCase: Same here. Country and Nickleback (photograph is a banger though lol).

RMRHAL-V, your new DJ name is your favorite kind of food and the last thing that made you happy. SpaceCase, your new DJ name is “Lil,” and the last drink you had. What are your new names?

HAL-V: Pizza Pizza, haha!

SpaceCase: Lil Water! Unfortunately, Smokepurpp already beat me to that alias.

RMRWhat are your ultimate goals as artists? What do you want to look back on and say that you’ve achieved?

HAL-V and SpaceCase: It’s already a blessing to look back on what we have achieved, so far. We’ve cultivated so many amazing memories and met so many incredible people on this journey! We are still plenty hungry though, and can’t wait for what the future has in store for us. Our ultimate goal is simple, to travel the world and play the music we love to as many people as possible, sharing moments with others and creating a positive impact throughout the world! One love!
