Axtone Set to Release “Make Your Mind Up” by Pauls Paris… Seven Years in the Making

As a kid in high school, I was obsessed with ID tracks from two of my favorite labels at the time, Axtone and Refune. Two stood out above the rest, “Think About It” by Axwell and “Make Your Mind Up” by Pauls Paris, and I thought I’d never see the day when they’d be finished.

“Think About It” became “Thinking About You”, and was updated with mild festival trap-esque beats, but the fate of “Make Your Mind Up” seemed grim.

That is, until this year.

Seeing this pop up in my Facebook newsfeed, I was sure it was a hoax. There was NO WAY, after SEVEN years, this track would be released, I thought. But here it is!

It is billed as an Axwell vs NEW_ID x First Day remode, but the original track has not been tainted. The vibe is still pure.

It’s great to see the big room house scene pull itself out of the rut it has been in the past few years. Once Swedish House Mafia split in 2013, it was like the identity of big-room itself had been stripped away. We then saw “Animals” rise to fame months later…which I, like many agree, wish we didn’t have to suffer through.

Even the Swedish superstars themselves, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, seemed to lose their magic touch in 2015, under the failed direction of Avicii’s ex-manager, Ash Pournari. It wasn’t until late last year, in my humble opinion, that the old vibe we fell in love with in the first place began to return. Soon after, Axwell and Ingrosso ditched Ash Pournari and rejoined forces with Amy Thompson, the leader behind the scenes during the Swedish House Mafia days.

Fast forward to now, and they’ve already released an EP titled “More Than You Know”, and each hosted their own stage at Tomorrowland. Both artists seem to have a grip again on big-room and have returned to the level that Swedish House Mafia operated at four years ago. It’s been a long journey back to the top, but seeing this return back to the vibe that made them great is a beautiful sight.

Since Axwell has never performed in Seattle, and Ingrosso hasn’t been here since 2013, they are the only act that I truly need to see on the lineup for FreakNight 2017. I have a feeling that they will be here then or at least soon in the near future.
