“BEE GEEZ EP” – G Force // Calvin Valentine

“Led Zeppelin didn’t write tunes that everyone liked. They left that to The Bee Gee’s.”

If I was to name the most creative and original hip hop project I have heard this year so far, G_Force’s “BEE GEEZ EP” would be one of the top albums in the running. A tribute to the 70’s disco group, and the late Robin Gibb, “BEE GEEZ EP” mixes smooth disco melody with unique hip hop beats and old recordings of interviews with members of the Bee Gee’s. Each track starts out with words of the band members, which tie into the title and style of the track.

Growing up in the countryside outside of Eugene, G_Force, (or Calvin Valentine), was introduced to hip hop at the age of three by his older brother, (DJ CELSIUS), and their childhood friend, (Lafa Taylor). He began playing drums at age 6, but knew even before then that he wanted to be a musician. By the 5th grade he was creating hip-hop beats.

When asked where the influence for the project came from, Calvin Valentine responded, “Really, I was just inspired by The Bee Gee’s. I’ve always loved their music and have sampled them throughout my career. A lot of legends have left us in the past few months and I felt the hip-hop community said nothing when Robin Gibb passed. So, this was my way of paying tribute to their legacy… I added interviews from them and other clips to educate people who don’t know the music or the history of the group.”

Impressively, the entire EP took G_Force seven days to create. “Truthfully, I started this project on a Monday and finished it on Sunday. I made the first three beats in one night, and then made the rest throughout that week.” Originally it was his intention to make a 3P, but Gedi from PotHolesinMyBlog.com convinced him to create three more beats. “I just hope it opens people’s ears to the different styles I do. People love to box you in and once you step out of that box you’ve done them wrong. I love good music no matter the genre, so that’s all you can expect from me… Good music.”

Personally, I could not be happier that G_Force took the risk and stepped out of the box to bring us this beat tape. It’s one of

the most refreshing things I’ve heard released in a while and I know listeners have plenty to look forward to from this artist, including the “GREEN TEAM OFFICIAL” album with Lawz Spoken, which will drop on June 19th. “Only way to go is up. I plan on continuing to put out quality music and quality visuals to go with them… I’m looking to get with Nike for that partnership. I think it’s ‘bout time they support someone from EUGENE, the hometown of Nike.   Swag.”
