Is BeldonDidThat The Next Super Producer To Come Out of Houston?

Read RMR's Exclusive Interview With Houston Producer BeldonDidThat

As a hip-hop recording artist, it’s a must to consistently be on the search for new sounds and the next producer we can potentially work with. It’s a daily mission seeking out the latest and greatest producers on the net and YouTube is a great source for me to discover that talent. I’m always asked why I use YouTube to find beats, and I chalk it up to two reasons. The first – I’ve yet to hear the style of beats I consistently search for come out of the Seattle area. Secondly – at any moment with a few clicks, I can find any style of beat I want to on YouTube.

Finding new producers to subscribe to doesn’t come by often. But, this time last year I discovered a sound and producer that is now essential to my subs list. As the beat built up to it’s drop and I heard the tag “Beldon did that,”I knew I had a new subscription on my hands. My high school football coach always told me “If you can do it once, you can do it again,”. I’ve always extended that mantra to producers who I look to add to my arsenal. If they make one beat I like, they probably can make another. That is the case about 70 percent of the time, and this time was no different with Beldon.

With an ear for a diverse range of melodies and booming 808’s, Beldon produces a special sound that you can bounce to while providing an immaculate vibe. I was fortunate enough to connect with the producer and chat with him about his path in music.

RMR Interviews BeldonDidThat

RMR: Where are you from?

BeldonDidThat: Houston

RMR: What kind of music did you grow up on as a kid?

BeldonDidThat: Shit I ain’t gone lie, I was fuckin’ with Lil Wayne the most as a youngin. I was fuckin’ with him when the Drought 3 came out and from then on I was jamming that nigga like crazy. That’s really who I was fuckin’ with music wise until Drake came in.

RMR: When did you start and how did you get into producing?

BeldonDidThat: Bro I started about four years ago. It all started because I used to make enviromental music but I could never find beats that I wanted or that could match the sound that I could go for. So I just said fuck it one day, got on YouTube, got a lil help from a friend of mine and it came like that my G.

RMR: Are there any producers who have helped shape your sound?

BeldonDidThat: Nah man. I teach myself and today I’m still learning. It’s always room for improvement; especially the music realm that we are in today.

RMR: Who are some notable artists that you have worked with?

BeldonDidThat: Man I can’t even remember bro, but from the top of my head, Lil Uzi, 808 Mafia, Sahbabii, Wheezy, Trill Sammy, Cash Out, Dice Soho, Go Yayo, Scrap Bundy – the list goes on and
it will continue to grow, bro.

RMR: When producing a new beat, what part of the beat do you work on first?

BeldonDidThat: The melody. Producers have they own way, but I dont think I could make a solid beat without first coming with a melody, because once I have a melody I could go so many ways with it, it’s crazy. I freestyle all of my beats, though.

RMR: You’re constantly pumping out new beats – how long does it take you to make a new beat?

BeldonDidThatA: It takes me about 5 mins to make a beat. I freestyle everything so it really just goes by the vibe I’m in at the moment. I could make a beat in 5 mins, I could make a beat in a hour, it just all depends on the vibe to be honest.

RMR: What percentage of all the beats you make, make it to your YouTube page?

BeldonDidThat: Man I’d say about 30. I’m trashing beats on a daily sending personal beats out, keeping beats for my personal use. The YouTube beats are for the public to get sold to. I have other options then just grabbing a beat off YouTube.

RMR: I saw that you helped produce part of “Sauce It Up” on Lil Uzi’s Luv Is Rage 2. What was it like working with Uzi and how did the two of you connect?

BeldonDidThat: Shit bro he’s a genius at his art, cant really call him a rapper cause you never know how he’s gonna come foreal, foreal. And we connected because I got ahold of his email and sent him some fuckin’ fire – expect more coming.

RMR: Who are your favorite producers?

BeldonDidThat: Wheezy Beats, man. I feel like he is the most slept on producer. That nigga got some fire. I would hear his shit and be like “Damn, why I didn’t make that shit?” Nah, but brodies too talented.

Southside – I fuck with Southside, he come 2nd. Brodie got that bounce. It’s hard to find a producer who can put a bounce on EVERY beat.

Zaytoven – He really the GOAT. I kno he gonna go down in history – he too crazy

Metro Boomin – I ain’t really gotta say much, he jus got that fire. He goin too crazy on everything. Gotta salute to him, fam.

Me (BeldonDidThat) –  I got a whole bunch of shit, I make beats every day. I got a lot of unreleased shit. If it was up to me, everything would be released so y’all could hear, but it’s comin’ surely. Oh yeah, I’m the hardest youngin in my city out right now. Nobody fuckin’ with my sound or my grind.

RMR If you could work with any artist right now who would it be?

BeldonDidThat: Gucci or Future. I could cook classics for days for them.

RMR: What do you want people to know about you as a producer?

BeldonDidThat: Shit…really I’m just a young nigga wit a billion dollar mindset. If the fans let me, I’ma change the game.
