Bon Iver is one of my absolute favorite artists, so to see him on the Sasquatch lineup is such a surreal feeling. I found Bon Iver after hearing Birdy’s “Skinny Love” cover a couple years ago, and fell in love with the track. This was after he had released both For Emma, Forever Ago, and Bon Iver. I enjoyed listening to both of his albums because it had such an experimental sound and honest lyrics (although you couldn’t quite understand what he was singing most of the time). He has a rawness in his voice that I have not heard before, and his voice comforted me during my lows. He’s accompanied me throughout the years and soundtracked my life.
Bon Iver is a mysterious and isolated artist who doesn’t let the culture or anyone influence him. He makes music in solitude and makes his own calls. His music has gained recognition across the nation and has won Grammys. However, despite his wide-spread recognition and success, Iver is staying humble and quiet. There have been very little interviews with him, and a more recent one can be found here. Bon Iver’s music is found widely throughout movies and popular TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, House, Paper Towns, among others. So, I’m sure a couple of his songs will sound familiar, even if you don’t actively keep up with him.
