Over the past 6 years, Tyler, the Creator has been establishing his music “carnival”, Camp Flog Gnaw, as one of the can’t-miss weekends in music. He gets the hottest acts of today and includes certain legends for a wild even that shuts down Exposition Park near Downtown LA.
Last year was the first year I was fortunate enough to go and I was blown away by superb performances from Lil Wayne, A$AP Rocky, Tyler, Schoolboy Q, Lil Uzi Vert, A$AP Ferg. Honestly we’d be here all day if I listed all the amazing sets, but you get the idea.
This year was more of the same, only with smoother set transitions and better management of all the foot traffic. Tyler still had his patented “GOLF” Ferris wheel among other classic amusement park rides. All of this to go along with the the carnival games and food trucks that has helped distinguish Camp Flog Gnaw as a wonderfully unique adaptation of the traditional music festival.
I wanted to give a glimpse of this absurdly turnt environment so more people are aware of this incredible gathering of first-rate performers. With that said, check out the recap video presented exclusively here by Respect My Region, highlighting some of the hypest moments from the best sets, an unreleased song performed by A$AP Rocky, and alternate intros of songs off of Flower Boy, performed by Tyler, the Creator for the first time.
As Tyler has acknowledged himself, Camp Flog Gnaw continues to become more well-executed every year and the line-ups are consistently some of the best offered year in and year out. After the experience I had and captured this year, I cannot imagine or wait to see what one of the best minds in pop culture will do with his carnival next year.
