Colorado Women in Cannabis Ft. Rachel K Gillette, Cannabis Attorney

Trail Blazing Cannabis Attorney Rachel K Gillette

The cannabis industry can be a really intimidating place to work. That being said if you work in the industry at all, you’re going to need a lawyer. Rachel K. Gillette is just the woman to call if you’re in Colorado. Rachel is a trailblazer in the cannabis community as a law focused cannabis attorney.

An Attorney Specializing in Cannabis Law

Throwing caution to the wind, in 2010 Rachel quit her job. Seeing that Colorado was preparing to legalize, she chose to start a firm that focused on newly-formed cannabis enterprises. She works in everything from corporate licensing compliance, cannabis tax law, and regulation law. Additionally, she has even sued the IRS for penalizing a client for paying their taxes in cash.  She also worked on legal issues pertaining to Potcoin.

Gillette is an advocate for drug testing reform for employees who use cannabis off the clock. In 2013 she was the Executive Director of NORML in Colorado. Being an outspoken critic of the “War on Drugs”, Rachel says she believes state regulation is the best exit strategy for a failed drug war.

In 2016, she became the head of the Denver Law office, Greenspoon Marder. Currently, she heads the firm’s national cannabis law practice. Where she is expected to grow that sector of the practice.

From reading many of her interviews, I can say I am refreshed by her excitement for the coming and ever-changing challenges the cannabis industry faces. Because this industry is in its infancy, we should expect to see a lot of changes regarding the laws around cannabis. I am glad to have women like Rachel K. Gillette leading the way for not just cannabis, but women in the cannabis industry.
