Respect My Region’s Capitol Hill Block Party Day Two Recap

My Capitol Hill Block Party day two recap is here. Today I only came for some of the best hip hop the town has to offer, All Star Opera, Kung Foo Grip, and Grynch.

I’ve been familiar with All Star Opera for a few years, I had seen them open up for the KnowMads and Kung Foo Grip in the past. This was the first time I have seen them headline a full set. I would describe All Star Opera as a hybrid between ska, jazz and hip hop. Great lyrics and flows over smooth guitar bass and horns made for a fantastic set. Check these guys out if you haven’t, they’re a lot of fun to see live.

Kung Foo Grip remains one of the highest energy acts I’ve seen. They always command the very front of the stage, jumping, dancing and wilding out for their entire set. Kung Foo gave us a exclusive sneak peak of their new album and it doesn’t disappoint. The track “Megazord” had the entire crowd throwing their hands. F is H and Greg Cypher continue to show they belong in hip hop’s top echelon of MCs. If you’re sleeping on these dudes, stop.

Grynch brought his friends with him and delivered a show with a classic west coast feel, much like his new EP “On a Good One.” Anthony Danza, Gifted Gab, Wanz joined Grynch on stage. His sets always have a G-Funk feel, and this one took that to a new level. It felt like I time traveled back to the 90’s.
