Caspa & Rusko At Paradiso

RMR Interviews Caspa & Rusko About New EP & Paradiso

On July 29th, two of the greatest Dubstep producers alive, Caspa & Rusko, released a brand new collab project called, ‘EP 1’. After connecting with their team out at Paradiso 2016, we were lucky enough to get an interview and discuss their new EP.

Relive their performance at The Wreckage stage and check out what they had to say about ‘EP 1’ below. This new project is sick and you definitely do not want to miss out on hearing their ‘bass-bulging’ fusion of grime, reggae, and garage beats.

RMR’s Interview With Caspa & Rusko

Question: Recently you guys performed in the Pacific Northwest for Paradiso. Can you guys describe that experience and whether or not any songs from the new EP were used in that set? Maybe as a test to see how fans reacted?

Answer: “My second time playing Paradiso, such a brilliant festival to play at because of the surroundings and the vibe that it creates. We got to close the stage this time around and got to play a little bit longer than we usually do, which was great as we had so much new music we wanted to play. We’ve been testing it out all year and it’s been interesting to see the reactions, especially when we’re the only ones playing that particular sound and style at any festival we play at. This makes us stand out a bit more from your average EDM performer. We played ‘Fruity Loops’ and ‘Arms House’ and both went down really well. We usually play ‘Rubber-Dub’ towards the end of the set since this one is for the original steppas.” – Caspa

Question: Describe what you did to get into the creative zone for the EP.

Answer: “Truthfully, we smoked a hella-lot of herb and just played each other music that we’re both really into – that’s how we start all of our sessions. For us it’s just about having fun and catching a vibe, rather than making music to be popular.” – Caspa

Question: Do you guys have a favorite track on the new EP? If so, which ones?

Answer: “Its hard to pick a favourite, but ‘rubber dub’ was one of the first ideas we came up with last year. Maybe I just like this one for the memories I have of us making it! very Smokey very vibey very excited! The sample at the end is rad too.” – Rusko

“They’re all favorites otherwise we wouldn’t release them, but which one did we have the most fun making? That would have to be Rubber-Dub! When you have a studio session like the one we did this with track, it makes you remember why you love doing what you do some much, straight studio vibes.” – Caspa

Question: What separates this EP from other projects? Is there anything on this release that you particularly are excited for fans to hear?

Answer: “The biggest difference stylistically on EP1 is the 2 grime tracks ‘Arms House’ and ‘Fruity Loops’ – grime has been a big influence for both of us and something were both really excited about currently. This time we went from grime influenced dubstep to making straight grime riddims but with our trademark grit dirt and wobbles.” – Rusko

“It’s good to bring our different production experiences together in the studio. Rusko with his cheeky, cheesy, melodic sound mixed with my dark, depressing, cinematic sound. It’s a good combination and you can really hear that in this EP and also in all the other music you haven’t heard yet. Every tune is different but you still know it’s Caspa and Rusko!” – Caspa

Question: Is there anything inspirational that you can say to the next generation of producers?

Answer: “The most obvious answer is the most truthful answer. Be influenced, don’t copy, create your own style and stick to your guns. The people who make game changing music are normally the ones trying to do something different to everyone else. I actually prefer it when I play new music to people and they either tell me they’re not sure or they don’t like it, because sometimes it’s best to make people THINK about what they’re listening to, rather than it just blending in with everything else. Trust me, when they get it, you got it!” – Caspa

EP 1 is currently available on iTunes and Spotify!
