Celebrate One Love: A Charity Event in Ellensburg on 2/24

Respect My Region is not just about Seattle, but about dope northwest culture across the Pacific Northwest. That is why we try to highlight even the smaller events outside of Seattle. One Love in Ellensburg is something we recommend checking out this Saturday, February 24th. This is also the same date of our 7 Year Anniversary party, so if you don’t snag an invite, definitely keep this in mind!

One Love features multi-genre acts and dancing fit for any age. It’s rare to see Reggae, Hip-Hop, Folk Rock, and EDM on the same stage. Each group involved with the event has created gift baskets, which guests can enter to win via raffle tickets. In keeping with tradition, Krewphoria Events will donate all proceeds to ASPEN Victim Advocacy Services, because who doesn’t love to contribute to a good case?

We spoke with Tabitha Zimny, the woman behind Krewphoria Events, about this event.

You’re very passionate about donating to ASPEN Victim Advocacy Services. How did this relationship begin? How does it feel to throw these events to aid their efforts?

“I first started donating to ASPEN Victim Advocacy Services with my previous event last October, Haunted Wonderland. ASPEN was my choice because it is an organization that helps women and men who suffer from sexual assault and domestic violence. I believe it’s important to spread awareness about their services to others, especially in a college town and in the society we live in today.

I’d also love to give a big shoutout to the Bearded Sinners Club. They reached out to me about creating an event to donate to ASPEN, and we created One Love.”

In the past, your events seemed to focus more on EDM. What inspired your decision to include more genres and ages at One Love?

“In the past, my events have been more focused on the dance music community. My audience was narrowed down to a small, specific demographic that is hardly present in Ellensburg. My initial goal two years ago was to bring the dance music community together, but I soon decided that I wanted to make donating to charities the bigger priority.

One Love is an event that aims to bring everybody together into one room with the same love for music, dancing, and helping those in need. The concert is all-ages, family-friendly, and has several genres of music, including folk, rock, reggae, hip-hop, and electronic dance music.

This way I can include people throughout the community who have different tastes in music, haven’t been old enough to attend my previous events, or families who can’t always find a babysitter. I wanted to create something that every person could find enjoyment in.”

As a student of CWU with a major in Event Management, how does it feel coordinating events like this? Would you recommend the program to people interested in production and planning?

“I love coordinating events that benefits other people. It makes me happy to create experiences that guests will enjoy and always remember. One Love will be the 4th live music event that I have managed and I couldn’t have done it without all the support for my friends, family, and people within the Ellensburg community.

I would recommend the CWU Recreation, Tourism, and Events program for people interested in planning and managing events. “Festivals and Events” was the first class that caught my attention in the program and it helped me decide that Event Management is the degree I wanted to pursue.”

A good cause with a great vision, why not check out One Love this weekend?
