Project Review: Enjoii Releases First EP “Life Alone” With Release Party

In December, Enjoii announced that he would be releasing a four-track EP “Life Alone,” via Liquid Ritual and The Accidental Poet. If you don’t know about Liquid Ritual, they are a London based record label currently supplying the latest in ‘algorithm-friendly’ wave music, and other cutting-edge bass styles. They also host a monthly Liquid Ritual show on Radar Radio.

Enjoii’s EP is finally here, along with a launch party and mini-tour, which he just commenced in Poland. Although I can’t say when he might come to the states, Enjoii’s EP is available online to stream and purchase. Keep reading for my firsthand take on this piece.

I pressed play on Life Alone with a clean slate and no expectations or notions other than what I had heard from Enjoii’s past work. Before I knew it, the EP was over and I was sitting there staring at my computer screen, suddenly broken free from a trance.

It was wave alright. Deep, far-reaching, almost like lo-fi, but much more complex. A little bit like half-time drum and bass, but not that either. As I listened a second time, Life Alone’s echoey variating formula of sound ran smoothly through until its end.

You could describe these four tracks as dreamy, late night sounds. The kind of music you can easily zone out to. There was no clear or distinct message to be picked up, no lyrics, aside from a few distorted chants. Only a frequency, an equation that reached out like a memory, an old face, or that funny feeling of De Ja Vu. Current, but distant at the same time.

It’s hard for me to choose a specific song that I favor more than the rest. This EP is truly one big wave, meant to be enjoyed as so. You might say that it’s slightly more chill than Enjoii’s other music, more solitary and calm. A sound where attention is due to subtle variations and intricacies. If you’re looking for something highly intense or non-rhythmical, this one might not be for you.

If you enjoy this EP, I suggest also taking a deeper look into Liquid Ritual and the artists they support. Wave music is a distinct and growing niche within the boundless and everchanging community of electronic music. Either way, there’s something out there for everyone. Listen to everything. Find out what you love, and take all of it with a grain of salt.

One last thing I’d like to mention about this EP is that the artwork was done by talented Seattle based artist and music producer Charles Duval, better known as DMISE.

This is Robin, supplying you with the newest and most exceptional electronic sounds to satisfy your auditory hunger. Check out “Life Alone,” by Enjoii, and let me know what you think in the comments below.
