Glenn Waco Calls For Change in ‘Assata’

What I like most about Glenn Waco is that he does incredibly conscious music and it sounds good. There is usually a lack of correlation with those two topics and although he is far from the first of this kind, he delivers a veteran level of knowledge with great sounding melodic music.

Fans of Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Pharaoh Monch would probably agree with me when I say that Waco’s new single ‘Assata’ is nothing short than fucking dope.

Far from just talking about issues in his music, Waco is a powerful figure in the Portland Black Power movement.  I say Black Power as Waco speaks for Black Lives Matter, The Panthers, and humanitarian movements alike. He told me he aimed to speak for two different eras on this record.  Waco continued to say that “I see “Black Lives Matter” as a continuation of the black power movement and mantra.” From working with the youth and leading marches, he is more than a positive

Working with the youth and also leading marches, Waco is more than just a gatekeeper to the Portland hip-hop scene. He is a positive addition to the city and its community of musici9\ans and fans.  Even his moniker stands for the cause, (W)e (A)re (C)hange (O)verall.

Glenn Wac0 – Assata ft. Neka

The record brings light to issues that have been affecting us as people for generations.  Although the melody may easily be engraved in your head, don’t let the message miss you.

This is a well-executed record featuring fellow Portlander Neka. Featuring dynamic production from Samarei, Assata is available on iTunes here.
