Global Dub Festival 2017 Recap

Thanks to one of my most experienced raver friends, Respect My Region can confirm that Global Dub Festival is holding it down for Oregon’s #bassfam. After attending this year’s festival, Cassidy Cross connected with RMR for our Global Dub recap.

Global Dub Recap (Ft. Cassidy Cross)

Q: How long have you been part of the electronic music community and what was the biggest reason why you went to Global Dub Festival?

A: I’ve been part of this community since 2012, I remember the first song I ever listened to was Skrillex’ remix of “Hey Sexy Lady” and I was hooked ever since. Excision has always been an amazing artist to watch live. I went to Bass Academy at the Tacoma Dome this year which was awesome, but I wanted to experience the Paradox again in a completely different environment with different people. Being outside in Oregon and gettin’ down to Jeff’s heavy bass was so much fun.

Q: When did you first start listening to bass music such as dubstep, trap, dnb, and the other bass heavy genres?

A: Dubstep has been my favorite since the very first day I knew what it was. I went through a phase where I loved trap back when I gogo danced, but my heart is forever with wobbles and heavy drops.

Q: Share a brief summary of your Global Dub experience. Where did you drive in from? What artists did you get to see?

A: Me and my friends came from Seattle so it was a five-hour drive which was fun cause it was like a “mini adventure”. I got to catch every artist except Kai Wachi because we had just gotten into the venue & were trying to explore. Honestly, the venue was a lot smaller space than I’m used to it but it was REALLY nice to be outside. Meeting all the new people down in Oregon was awesome, everyone was super friendly!

Q: Describe your favorite moments.

I think my favorite part of that day was when the sun went down, for some reason everyone vibed the best at sunset. It was cool meeting people who had never been to a show before and it was their first time, brings back so many memories for me. I’ll definitely be back for more shows whether it’s Portland or Eugene, but Seattle will always be where my heart is. S/o to Jeff for never disappointing with his artistry, no matter the state.

Q: When it comes to bass artists, who really gets your blood flowin?

A: Sub focus, Andy C, Figure, Dieselboy, Excision, Zeds Dead, Datsik – just to name a few lol.

Q: Describe what it feels like to be front row, stage left or right, and head banging with legit #bassfam.

A: There’s just something about dancing/head banging with people that makes me so happy. For a few hours, we forget about all the messed up things going on in this world & come together simply because of music. That in itself is amazing to me. There’s a saying out there that as soon as the bass drops, so do your problems & it’s so so true. I love all my headbangers, I love the heavy bass, I love the smiles on everyone’s face. Front left squad is the best; but whether you’re in the back watching the visuals or up front close and personal, it’s all an experience. I like to switch it up.

Q: Did any of the Global Dub Festival artists fail to meet your expectations?

A: Honestly, no. Ganja White Night killed it in the best way, so did Terravita. Excision never disappoints but I did miss Kai Wachi’s set unintentionally.
