An Introductory Guide To Choosing The Right Marijuana (Part 1)

Right now, the world of marijuana can be confusing. There are so many different types of products and strains. Plus, depending on who you talk to, each one can have different effects.

When you visit a shop, there are many products on the shelves. The sheer number of options is known to overwhelm new customers. Smoking, vaping, pills, and eating or drinking infused products are just a few of the different consumption methods available to consumers.

An Introductory Guide To Choosing The Right MarijuanaRegardless of how you consume cannabis, there are three industry terms used to identify each type. Sativa (S), Indica (I), and Hybrid (H). In order to choose the marijuana experience that is best suited for you, it’s important to understand each classification.

Sativa and Indica are known to produce specific types of effects depending on the specific strain. Some can give you energy, anxiety, or focus, while others can relax you, sedate you, or make you hungry. The hybrid is special because these strains are a blend or combination of various Sativa and Indica strains.

Now that we know cannabis comes in different forms and many of them can bring about different kinds of effects, let’s think about how we want to feel after we’ve consumed the marijuana. One of the best ways you can identify which strain or product is right for you is by communicating your needs or wants with your shop’s staff.

Choosing The Right Marijuana: Terpenes

Ask yourself if you want energy or if you want to feel sleepy. Or maybe you need help managing anxiety or increasing appetite. Depending on what you may or may not want to do, we can almost always find something that has been known to help. Since many people don’t actually smoke cannabis, communicating a desire to stay away from smoking is actually very helpful. I always suggest the creation of a strong relationship with your budtender so they can take care of you. Once your budtender can begin to identify what kind of high you’re looking to experience, they can dial in the right terpenes and flavor profiles. This will allow you to consistently smoke or use marijuana in an effective way.

Choosing The Right Marijuana: Edibles (Myths)

With an endless supply of indoor/outdoor flower, infused candies, cookies, chocolates, and beverages, finding something tasty shouldn’t be too difficult as long as you have an open dialogue with your pot shop. Communicating what products you’ve tried and whether or not they were successful is a huge part of learning which strains work best for you. If you haven’t yet tried any of the legal cannabis currently offered throughout Washington State, we recommend you visit a reputable retailer and letting the staff know it’s your first time.
