Common Parenting Issues - Joint Parenting

Parenting Hot Button Issues – Joint Parenting

If there is one thing you learn as a parent, it’s how easily people judge every little detail about your life. It’s part of the reason we even created this series in the first place. What better way to combat the judging than by talking about those taboo subjects and helping normalize them?

One of the biggest parenting issues in today’s society is breastfeeding. One of our “joint parents” constantly deals with comments about the nursing of her 2.5-year-old daughter.

To most parents, it should not matter how or why as long as her daughter is happy and healthy. That same mother is 8 months in with her son and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. He was lip and tongue tied which almost killed their breastfeeding relationship.

She encourages any of you who are struggling with nursing to ask your pediatrician about this. Most babies go diagnosed and the mother is blamed for milk issues which almost always end the relationship prematurely.

Another topic that brings out the opinionated perfect moms is male circumcision. You rarely find a parent who does not feel very strongly about this topic. At Joint Parenting, we are divided but respectful of each other’s choices and we encourage you to do the same.

‘Because that’s just how it is’ is not always the best reason. You should always do your own research and ask your doctor plenty of questions. Circumcision appears to becoming less popular, less than 25% males undergo the surgery these days in the PNW.

The final topic we’re going to talk about is vaccines. If you’re like us and are involved with mom Facebook groups, you know all too well how vicious women can get over this topic. Vaccines have been around for a long time yet most of the parent population is divided.

We seriously can’t stress enough to do your own research. We are also divided on vaccines but we have each formed our opinions because of our own individual research. We can not stress that enough. Talk to your doctor and look at credible sources online.

At the end of the day, close out the opinions of the world, listen to your Mama instinct and do some research. We are in the age of knowledge and it is not hard to learn about these common parenting issues.
