How To Talk About Weed With Your Children - Joint Parenting

Explaining Cannabis To Your Children – Joint Parenting

It’s been another hectic week in the joint parenting household. I’ve been dealing with a child who has learned he can hold things and walk, plus I had to come up with a big report for the head of the marketing department at my work. I’m also finishing my second week of the keto diet without cheating. Yay me!

I’ve also spent the last few weeks connecting with some parents who share the same joint parenting message. I’m very pleased to welcome a few other parents to this series to help expand our perspective. It’s important to share that all kinds of parents use cannabis throughout their lives.

This week we’re talking about how to explain cannabis use to your children. It’s important as parents who are cannabis users that we make sure our children don’t grow up following the reefer madness craze that just doesn’t seem to want to stay in the past. If you leave cannabis education up to the public school system, you’re going to be doing more harm than good.

We encourage you to have an open door policy with every conversation, especially cannabis. Do not use age as an excuse to keep things from your children. Explain to them that beer and cannabis are for grown ups as equally as milk is for a child. If you find age appropriate comparisons you will be amazed at what your child can understand.

One of our friends is a combat veteran with visible and invisible injuries. Edibles help him sleep. This is one example of a perfect opportunity to show children that cannabis has many benefits, one of them being medicine. They may not understand the difference between cbd and thc but they can understand the difference between right and wrong if you teach them well enough.

Living in a state that isn’t cannabis-friendly is a tricky line that we can’t truly give advice on because we’re not lawyers. It’s important to protect your family more then anything else and make sure you know your rights should you ever cross paths with CPS.

Perhaps the biggest thing we all agree on here at RMR – Weed & Joint Parenting is that we hope that our kiddos choose cannabis over other vices such as nicotine or alcohol. All we can do is educate them on the positive and negative effects and hope we as parents instill enough throughout the years for them to make informed decisions throughout their lives.

Between now and my next joint parenting update, share your thoughts and concerns in the comments or connect with us via email or on social media below. We want to know your opinions on smoking weed while being pregnant and breastfeeding.
