Police Shut Down Yet Another Show In Portland

Last night at the Blue Monk, Illmaculate refused to perform, in protest of the Portland Police’s presence at the venue. Police claimed that the venue was over capacity, and surrounded the building with red and blue lights flashing.  Illmaculate, who was scheduled to headline the event, posted an explanation on Twitter, stating that he will not perform in Portland “as long as the blatant targeting of black culture and minorities congregating is acceptable common practice.”

The line up for this show was crazy, with Mikey Vegaz opening, followed by LuckOne and then, Illmaculate.  Mikey Vegaz and LuckOne both performed, though the venue was already surrounded by law enforcement officials during LuckOne’s set.  I had the opportunity to ask Portland based producer DJ Fatboy what he thought about the incident and he told me, “it was bound to happen.  Even their bullet proof vests couldn’t take the verbal shots of the truth.  Last night was a perfect example of hate.  The show was not at capacity.  I could easily get through people and my name is Fatboy.  There were NO fights, no weed smoking, no problems.  Just good music and positive vibes.”  DJ Fatboy, who has worked with Kreyshawn, E40 and others, would have joined Illmaculate on stage for his performance.  “It sucks because me, Illmaculate and OnlyOne had a GREAT set prepared.”

Head over to Twitter and show your support to @illmaculate, @LuckOne, and @FliBoiMV.
