Prisilla Ray Of Soulshine Cannabis Talks Women In The Cannabis Industry

Prisilla Ray Of Soulshine Cannabis Talk About Women In The Cannabis Industry

In the last few weeks, I have dipped into an ocean of research about empowered women in the cannabis industry across the United States. While I am amazed at the number of women carving out spaces in the cannabis industry, I still have plenty of questions for women in cannabis. I reached out to Prisilla Ray, who is the Director of Sales and Marketing for Soulshine Cannabis.

Interviewing Soulshine’s Prisilla Ray

I reached out to Prisilla since she has worked with Respect My Region on a few events on Soulshine’s behalf. Additionally, I knew that Soulshine Cannabis donates to animal charities, and their packaging is all 100 percent recyclable!

RMR: What got you interested in working in cannabis?

Prisilla: I think the biggest thing that got me into the cannabis industry was freedom. I’m a musician in two bands Trick Candles and a Prince Tribute called Purple Mane. This industry seems to always go hand in hand with music and a certain lifestyle I love. I think that is what kept me into it was the love of the plant. Who wouldn’t work with a miracle plant in an industry where everyone else feels as passionately about it as you do?

RMR: What has been your biggest hurdle in the cannabis industry as a woman?

Prisilla: My biggest hurdle in the cannabis industry as a woman has always been that it is a male-dominated industry. Sometimes it feels like men don’t take you seriously or mistake your passion for being emotional. All I can do is continue to show them my love and passion for the plant and be persistent!

RMR: What empowers you as a woman in the industry most?

Prisilla: Being part of organizations like Women of Weed help. They show a great example of the sisterhood this industry can create. After all, it is a female plant that grows better with positive female energy around it.

RMR: What would you like to see women do more of in cannabis?

Prisilla: I would like to see more women take leadership roles. Women tend to be more nurturing and giving. Which is something the industry needs, badly! There seems to be more taking than giving back, and an unnecessary amount of greed in the Washington cannabis market.

RMR: If you could say anything to empower another woman trying to gain her footing in the cannabis game what would it be and why?

Prisilla: I would say to hold your head up high and never give up! And study hard so that you are never caught in a situation where you are made to look like you don’t belong. I did everything from growing, trimming, selling and managing medical and recreational dispensaries in the beginning. Once you think you know it all; you’re doomed.

I want to thank Prisilla and Soulshine for their time and efforts in supporting women in the cannabis industry.
