When Rezz announced that she would be stopping by Seattle on her Mass Manipulation World Tour, tickets sold out almost instantly. This prompted the artist and her management to announce her second show in Seattle the following day, which shortly sold out as well. This has been a recurrence at many locations on her tour, and a clear reflection of her strong appraisal from her fans.

Rezz is quickly making a groundbreaking impact on the EDM community with her out of this world image and talented originality. Her innovative style of low-mid-tempo cryptic bass is changing the game right now for a lot of EDM artists and fans.

So what’s so special about Rezz?

Quick recognition From big Artists

Rezz first gained her reputation as a talented artist at twenty years old, when Skrillex discovered her music on a blog and reached out to her on Twitter. Soon later, Rezz released Insurrection on Skrillex’s record label, OWSLA. Later in that same year, she would manage to release music on her new friend and mentor Deadmau5’s record label, Mau5trap. Her track Serenity was also featured on a 2015 compilation album, We Are Friends, vol. 4.

Mass Manipulation Tour – The Music

Rezz has succeeded in pushing the boundaries of unpredictability, while simultaneously carrying a style and repetition which puts her listeners in a darkened trance-like state. One can’t help but conjure loosely fixed images of dark alleyways, and shadows of cult-like figures lurking through them in a stupor, their minds manipulated by Rezz and her hypnotic glowing eyes.

A year ago, I would have described Rezz’s music as head turning. Now with the release of her first album, Mass Manipulation, and the experience of seeing her on her world tour, I believe her musical talent has reached unsurpassed levels. Rezz is doing more than just turning heads. I would roughly describe Saturday’s performance as a ‘Bass-face, abduct-you-to-space, leave-your-head-spinning-in-circles, phenomenon.’ It was a Rezz-exorcism.

Mass Manipulation Tour – The Visuals

If you’ve been to more than one of her shows on this tour, you may have noticed a variation in the visuals. After looking at videos of the earlier shows, compared to when I saw her in Seattle, I realized it firsthand. Rezz has had different visuals done for every show so far on this tour. 

This was confirmed by Rezz in the tweet below replying to someone about her Sunday show in Seattle. What other artist does that?! This artist is bringing originality to new levels, which is one of the reasons behind her immense success.

Her Fans Are In Love With Her

Memes about Rezz. I’ve seen many and even made a few myself. I don’t think this is unusual for an artist with such a monumental fan-base, but just another rhetorical staple of evidence that what we are seeing is not just another successful passerby artist.

I’ve also seen her being showered with all sorts of gifts made by fans whenever I saw her live. Necklaces, bracelets, drawings, crafts and anything else her fans could come up with. At one show, I even saw someone propose to her on stage with a candy ring pop. Now that to me is a real fan.

She Loves Her Fans

Check this out. Here you can see Rezz as she brings one of her fans on stage to show off the amazing necklace he made for her. If this doesn’t scream, “I love my fans,” I’m not sure what will.

Lets not even get started on how much time she takes out of her day to communicate with her fans via Twitter and The Cult Of Rezz fan page. Rezz puts a lot of attention into her fans and reacts to them on a one to one basis.

It’s things like this that separate her from many artists who don’t take the time of day to do this. It really shows when she comes on stage. Her fans seem to know her on a deeper level than most fans ever get to know their favored artists. Rezz goes above and beyond to give her fans everything they deserve and more.

Day One Recap

One thing that should be mentioned first off about Saturday’s show is the wild performance that Zeke Beats gave us. Zeke’s digital vinyl styled show was impressive and original, the perfect thing to get the crowd ready for the headliner. It was my first time seeing a digital vinyl performance, and I was honestly sad that more people at The Showbox weren’t as excited for it as I was.

I’ve seen far too many artists spinning the same songs on the same decks, which was why I became interested in original artists such as Rezz in the first place. Zeke also mentioned during his set that some of his recent music had been ‘Rezz inspired,’ showing his love for the artist.

As for Rezz, her performance was even wilder than expected. When she came on, the crowd went crazy. I mean really, they totally lost their shit. She opened with Relax, which was about the time that I found myself entrapped within hundreds of star-struck fans, myself included. It was amazing

The crowd was definitely a bit of a cluster while trying to navigate, but that was to be expected. Somewhere towards the middle of her performance, things started getting really intense. Rezz was dropping all her best tracks from her album and EP’s and it was a real challenge getting anywhere near the stage. Everyone around me was pretty dazzled by her performance from the get-go.

Near the end of her set, I stepped out of the crowd to grab water and found a spot on the benches near the wall for a better view. From there, I could see fans at the front who were tossing up bracelets and small gifts at Rezz’s feet. As I mentioned before, seeing her bring one of her fans on stage was also really amazing. All the die-hard Rezz fans were pretty much dead right about then. You could literally feel the excitement in the air.

After the show, I eventually wandered outside with the crowd. It seemed that nobody wanted to go home, however. Over the next twenty minutes, a group of people formed beside the Showbox, ranting and raving about the event that their ‘Space Mom’ had put on. Then something happened that caught everyone’s attention. The crowd suddenly began cheering with cult-like appreciation as Rezz waved down at us from the upstairs window of The Showbox.

Finally, the excitement died down as Rezz disappeared from the window and we were all told by staff that it was time to leave. As I watched everyone walk to their cars, I observed their reactions. I noticed some who were exhausted, others talkative and ecstatic. A few seemed totally bewildered, walking about randomly in a sort of trance. Perhaps they had been inspired, encouraged by the spectacle they’d witnessed to wander the streets in search of some new and deeper meaning for their lives.

Well, they might have just been looking for their cars. Anyway, all were blessed to have been there together in the same room, dancing and getting down to the awesome vibes of Space Mom.
