Ripynt and Carl Roe – Martians

When I first started seeing Ripynt and Carl Roe’s stuff, I honestly judged and slept on their music. I receive submissions, tweets, emails, and messages all day and night, so I have started to discredit people on fundamental things before listening. I thought to myself, “yay..more white rappers.”

Whenever I hear an artist is starting to get some buzz, I have to go listen. I first started seeing their names pop up more and more on Facebook, contributing to some lengthy conversations before self promoting their new project Martians.

The way the music was shamelessly promoted didn’t upset me as they genuinely seemed like some cool guys. I will admit that at first I still didn’t really listen. It wasn’t until I saw more and more cosigns, that I really dove in to their works.

Ripynt and Carl Roe – Martians

Listening to Martians as a whole, I found it to be a very cohesive project. My fellow CWU homie D-Money said this project may be one of the NW’s best for 2015 and its hard to disagree.

The album has a nice hip-hop feel to it but still takes you to many different places. It goes up-beat on the first few tracks, touches some west-coast sounds, then goes to experimental realms on “Full Stop 2.0”.

My personal favorite tracks from Martians are: “Be Here”, “Auto Pilot, and “Space Boogie because they’re just plain fun.

Cruise Control Music Video

Upon first view of Cruise Control, I wasn’t really feeling the sound, but it grew on me before the end of the record. I went from thinking this isn’t my cup of tea, too: I can fux with this. The production is solid, the flow is nice, and it had a soft, appealing sound that I grew to enjoy.
