Haiti Benefit Concert

Seattle Helps SOL raise $15,000 for Haiti relief fund

On November 17th, myself and a few of the guys from the Respect My Region team saw SOL at Neumos in Capital Hill.  Sol and his crew sold out Neumos yet once again. This has been a common theme for the Zillas and SOL in Seattle. In October of 2016, a devastating hurricane hit Sol’s homeland in  Les Zebrine, Haiti. Using his status as a well known artist in Seattle, SOL helps Haiti by putting on a fund raising concert.

“We can tell you that when our teams arrived, they compared the area to that of a bomb blast,” Dr. Joanna Cherry, chief medical officer of Hospital Bernard Mevs’ Project Medishare in Port-au-Prince, told NPR. ” (Theweatherchannel.com)

Artists like Gifted Gab, The Physics, Do Normaal and SOL raised over $15,000 to send in relief from Hurricane Mathew.

Haiti benefited from this lineup, but Seattle benefited equally as much. The crowd was energetic and was really involved with all of the artists. In return for raising the money, Seattle was given an extremely memorable night.

This was the first time I saw Gifted Gab live. I have known who she is as well as have heard some of her tracks. I never realized how talented she was and how much I liked her, until I saw her live. Her flow is sharp, crystal clear and super clean. She had Seattle on the edge of their seats, rapping and dancing to every song. The energy between her and the crowd was hard not to notice. Her new single “Lady Of Leisure” off her Gab The Most-High album was my favorite song live, Check it out.

The next act was “The Physics.” Based out of Seattle, these two “brothers” killed it. This was my first time even hearing of these guys and if you like old traditional hip-hop soul feels, mixed with new age music, you will most definitely dig these guys.

“Real-deal brothers Thig Nat and Monk Wordsmith and Justo have been making music for well over a decade since their days at O’Dea High School. The group’s evolution from a refreshing, promising rap trio to a sophisticated collective of lyricists, vocalists and musicians is a narrative of hometown pride.”The Physics

SOL is personally one of my favorite artists coming out of Seattle. He is a very personable guy and is really passionate about helping others. Seattle does not let this go without notice. Playing yet another sold out show at Neumos, the vibes between SOL and the crowd were electric. It is safe to say that Seattle and Sol f*ck with one another.

Sol opened the concert with his single  “Turn Me Loud,” which everyone from the city clearly knew. His live performance for this show was with a full band which was pretty cool to experience some of my favorite songs by him ways I’ve never heard.

We were also able to catch a live stream of his set, so if you missed it, don’t worry! You can check that stream out down below.
