What The Fuck Happened To Bingx?

This time last year, BINGX was on a rise. After a local rap beef and leaving his record label, people may assume he fell off. The Seattle-based rapper has been out of the public eye locally for 365 days. That changes today.

A fresh announced national tour spot on Jarren Benton’s Mink Coat Killer Tour and a new album on the way, BINGX is back and bigger than ever. In the last year, BINGX has transformed from rapper to artist. Learning his way around the studio with recording, mixing, mastering, and production. He’s also been getting paid from a songwriting deal, penning verses in all genres.

After sharpening various skills of the hustle, BINGX focused on bettering himself. Claiming, he wasn’t acting like himself.

“That was not me, I was out of my element. That wasn’t me if that makes sense,” BINGX said.

He attributes his ego, drugs, and mindset to his previous behavior and barriers to true success. Once he was able to take a step back, focus on his craft and himself as a person, his music grew exponentially.

Aptly titled, My E.G.O. stands for “Emotional Genius Obliged.” The very thing that held him back as an artist, he’s owning to create success. Since September of last year, BINGX has been completely sober. Finding a new circle of friends and building new habits came indirectly from changing his behavior.

“I wanted to focus on being a better human being,” he said. Continually mentioning that “your vibe is your tribe,” and that the people around you will become you.

“Once you get that right. You really need to find a passion.”
“When your vibe is right, you end up surrounding yourself with positive people. When you’re passionate on top of that, you’ll surround yourself with people that are positive and driven. Then you’ll start thinking differently and can make the right moves.”

Getting into production, engineering, and songwriting has given BINGX the ability to fully tailor his records, according to his vision. It’s not just the song structure that has been upgraded, BINGX connected with some cats in Atlanta and grabbed up connections. Linking up with producers Mook Beatz and Zaytoven has elevated his sonic backdrops.

Even before BINGX’s evolution, he was on records with Redman, Bone Thugs, Kurupt, Stevie Stone and rocking stages all over the country.

“I feel like I almost made it…when I was with Cavigold (records).”

It’s not often a rapper can fall off the map, part ways with a label, and come back out of nowhere a year later.BINGX is glad he got into a local rap beef early in his career, noting it as a situation he learned and grew from.

“I reacted. I’m an emotional person. Maturity wise, if you’re reacting with emotion, it’s never the best situation.”
“If you take a minute, take a step back and respond to it accordingly, you may not end up doing the right thing, but you’ll be able to approach it in the right way.”
“I’m not holding any grudges, I played a part in that situation… I shouldn’t have done half the shit I did, and I shouldn’t have reacted. But I learned from that.”

It’s clear that the personal growth and year away from releasing music have helped BINGX evolve his sound. Meeting with labels and making moves within the industry has given him insight into how the music world really works.

“These companies don’t want you until you can show numbers, but once I have those numbers…I don’t need you anymore.”

Tackling the topic in his new record ‘Numbers Up.’ BINGX believes the recording and distributing of music via Soundcloud and Spotify has been commoditized. Labels no longer have an interest in grooming an artist from their potential, they simply want to see numbers.

‘Numbers Up’ is a great record that showcases BINGX’s full range of talents: From rapping, singing, pop appeal, and song structure. Artists will associate to the triumphant anthem about making it on your own terms. Take a listen and let us know what you think. Is BINGX one of the next artist to blow out of Seattle?
