XXL Magazine launched their first issue in 2007 and since then, the Freshman franchise has exploded across the world with popularity steadily rising over the past decade. In recent years, the list hasn’t been too strong and we were hoping for a few more legitimate rappers to emerge. The XXL 2017 Freshman Class follows the trend of weaker talent pools and includes the likes of the Bay Area’s Kamaiyah, The Bronx’s A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Philadelphia’s PnB Rock, Tokyo repper Madeintyo, Atlanta’s Playboi Carti, Portland’s Aminé, Atlanta’s Kap G, Ventura, Calif.’s Kyle; Houston’s Ugly God and the 10th spot went to XXXTentacion.

Overall I feel this list is pretty disgraceful with the exception of Aminé. Even with him on the list, this freshman class doesn’t compare to previous years.
