17-Year-Old Dallas Native 34 Brat Is Making Her Own Wave Of Street Rap

Coming in hot out of Dallas, TX is 17-year-old female street rapper 34 Brat aka Asiah Hicks (FKA 47 Brat.) A month ago she put out her first formal release, an EP under the name of “Gun Violence.” Since then she’s been consistently dropping dope visual content to further her street-hardened persona. With less than a year or so having ever set foot in the studio she’s already well on her way to blowing up.

34 Brat has been learning along the way as she’s been finding the tools to get ahead in today’s music industry. She’s already got a firm grip on how to run her hustle online by releasing quality music videos and maintaining a strong grip on the social media sphere. After growing up in more than one difficult situation she’s dead set on hustling her way into her first million by any means necessary.

I had the opportunity to have an enlightening conversation over the phone with Asiah aka 34 Brat about her laundry list of plans. Throughout our chat she made clear that she’s the “hardest, and youngest female rapper” currently in the game. Not to mention that she intends to take her authentically hard vibe out of Texas and make it global.

34 Brat Exclusive Interview

How Do You Feel About The Music Scene In Texas Right Now?

34 Brat is a born-and-raised resident of Dallas, and laid down the facts on me. She said, “I really feel like Texas is the next big thing with the music industry. Dallas is next up because it got a lot of people coming out and they’re going up.” She went on to say that “at the end of the day people need to see something original, and it gets to the point where everyone starts to sound like each other.” Finishing she made the comment that in “Texas we got our own flow, and our own vibe at the end of the day.”

Are You Currently Still In Dallas?

Dallas is still the home of the 17-year-old bubbling artist. She told me that “I don’t wanna stay a local artist, I’m trying to get some radio plays.” She went on to say that “I’m trying to get out of Texas, so I’m trying to switch it up too.” Then she said, “I’m trying to relate to everyone. I wanna be original, I wanna be different.” “I know I deserve to be a millionaire. After all the shit I been through.”

She told me, “I know how it feel to be down. If I come up, [her people] they eating too and that’s just that.” Adding on, she said “all my brothers older than me, and I’m out here doing it quicker.” “The problem is they’re local, and that’s where I’m trying to change that.” “We gotta get out of Texas, that’s the goal.”

Do You Feel Obliged To Cover Any Specific Content As A Female Artist?

Instantly 34 Brat said “I don’t even put myself in a female category, I put myself in my own.” She told me that “most females these days come out acting like ho’s.” Furthermore, she said “I’m not a girly girl, I was not raised a ho; I was homeless the majority of 2018.” With a certain weight in her voice, Asiah said “I had to do a lot of stuff I didn’t expect to do.” Concluding, she said “I never woke up trying to be a rapper, it was just an outlet that made me feel better about my situation.” Finally noting that “my mom was a poet, and I really feel like I channel her energy.”

You Just Put Out Your First Ever Music Video For “Mac 11,” Were You Nervous At All Filming?

From pure interest in the work she’s putting out, 34 Brat was hit up by KoolyTv to make her first flick for “Mac 11.” The video came out July 2nd, and has over a thousand organic plays. She told me that “Mac 11 was my first music video. It was fun but I was a little nervous.” “I think I was thinking too hard about it but it came out cool though.”

KoolyTv even gave her the opportunity to do three more videos for free. “I’m trying to record a lot of songs so I can drop visuals,” Asiah said. In regards to new music videos, Asiah said she hopes she can drop new visuals every few weeks moving forward. “I only got in the studio last summer, and there was so much stuff going on that I couldn’t stay consistent.” She told me that “I couldn’t be in the studio as much as I can now.”

Aside From Videos, Do You Think It’s Better To Drop An Album Or Singles?

34 Brat told me that “I think the EP is better than just dropping singles because it gives people more variety.” She went on to say that “I think it works better for people because it gives them all the music at once.” I ask a lot of rappers this question these days, because a lot of them lean towards making super impactful single drops rather than putting out cohesive projects as often.

Who Are Some Of Your Biggest Influences?

Without wasting a breath, 34 Brat told me her favorite rapper is Chief Keef. She said, “he blew up when he was 15 or 16, and now he’s 23 and a millionaire.”

How Do You Stay Relevant Online?

Like many other rappers quickly rising the ranks into success, 34 Brat utilizes Instagram daily to keep her fans ready and waiting. She said, “I use Instagram every day, and try and stay as active as possible, so that people wanna tap-in.” She went on to tell me “that’s how I network, I read all the analytics, Instagram is my main source.” Asiah went on saying that “social media is the biggest thing, that’s the main thing that’s gonna put you on.”

“I just dropped a video and ten big blogs reposted my shit out of nowhere, and it’s been driving people to my Instagram,” Asiah told me happily. “My shit is accurate, and my followers are actually tuning in.” Concluding, she said “I know that they actually looking, and actually watching. My shit is buzzing.”

What Do You Have Planned? Any Shows During The Summer?

“I’m trying to drop a new EP every month to get my name out there.” 34 Brat told me that “I’m just trying to get music out there right now to give people something to chew on.” There are a couple shows around Texas that she plans to play. She told me about two upcoming shows in Houston, and three in Dallas. This girl obviously has serious work she’s already putting in, and will continue to put in. Don’t sleep on the rise of 34 Brat and tune in now before it’s too late.
