Anomaly Music Collective, an electronic music community from the Pacific Northwest, is finishing out the month of may with a bang. They just released their new compilation EP, Groove: 001, and made a major statement by going against EDM’s unwritten rule about staying within a single genre.
Down below I’ve listed out my honest reviews of each track on the Groove: 001 EP. I’ll score each track 1-20 for Complexity, Intro Length, Overall Length, and Structure. I picked these critiquing tools specifically for these songs because they all have them in common.

If I had to choose which song to be the main theme for the next Tron movie, my first choice would have to be this track. The beginning starts out slow, with a perfect gradual intensity increase and includes melodic synths gaining traction until the climax arrives. From then on it’s Tron City- I mean, Trance City for the next 9 minutes.

I’ve actually listened to Faraday before and have generally been impressed with his work. I like his minimalistic take on his tracks and dove into this song expecting just that. I left surprised at the production of this track as the intro starts from nothing, and gradually ascends into something magnificent. It’s amazing what a few simple chords can do to a song. The first drop was good, but the 2nd drop is the highlight of the song, a seamless transition coming out of nowhere.

G-Bass is probably the best way to describe it. (G- House meets Bass House.) This track goes hard from the start and locks me in with the catchy “East Side” hook that’s continuously found throughout the song. Kid Bass still had plenty of room to put in some dope synth stabs to beef it up a bit. My favorite part of the drop aren’t the sick “Yoys” but the half-time section found 16 beats after the first drop.

Not sure if I traveled to another country or another world with this final track on AMC’s EP. Rattlesnake shakers, sitars, and synth stabs were all included and I didn’t really think it could mix as well as it did with Samaha’s new song. This take on house music has me hooked. I’m interested to hear what more Samaha has to offer later in the future. If it’s anything close to this song, you know I’ll be on it.
