Exclusive Black Fortune Interview

How’s everything been going lately?

Everything’s been going well. Good as it can be, you know.

I listened to Katrina last night for the first time and that song was crazy.

Yeah, that’s one of my favorites off the tape.

How have things been going since the release of “Nothing to Lose?”

It’s been going really well. I’ve been getting a lot of bigger artists hitting me up from that song, wanting to work, wanting to link and telling me how good I am so it’s doing good for me.

What sort of response and feedback have you been getting from the fans??

The fan base has been getting a lot bigger. A lot more people have tapped in since I’ve dropped “Nothing to Lose.” I’ve gained a lot more followers and the views are going crazy on Worldstar and Youtube so everything’s going exactly as planned.

Is there anything you would do differently on that track next time? Or do you feel completely solid about things?

I wouldn’t change a thing. I feel like it’s perfect.

What’s one thing you’ve taken from the DMV with you to the West Coast? It could be anything.

Simple stuff like how you move on a regular daily basis. I brought that out here. I’m also aggressive with it. I wouldn’t let anybody run over me or step on me. I put my foot down, that’s just the DMV way.

What is the best part about living in Los Angeles?

The nice weather. Also, I feel like you can step outside of your house and run into exactly who you need to run into. Back home there’s not too much opportunity, but there’s a lot more opportunity out here. The other day I stepped outside to go to the gas station and ran into Floyd Mayweather. That doesn’t happen back in Maryland.

What’s something outside of music that inspires you – or that makes you happy that people might not know about.

Drawing. I’m actually an artist. I like to draw on my walls in my house and I also love to box and fight.

What sort of stuff do you draw?

Artists. I like to draw Michael Jackson a lot, Biggie, Tupac all of my favorite rappers. Everybody that’s inspired me music-wise and I like to draw cartoon characters as well.

Who are 2 or 3 artists out right now that you rock with?

I’m not really a big fan of today’s music, but I like Young Thug, Playboi Carti and Lil’ Wayne.

When you look at your music and craft from an outside point of view, what do you want people to get from it?

The story behind it because there’s a story and purpose to every song. I don’t go into the studio and just say anything. I would also like people to get the fun from the music because there’s funny punchlines and jokes.

If you were to look into the future two years from now, what is Black Fortune doing?

He’s going to be one of the biggest artists to ever make music. In about two years, I’m going to be rich as hell traveling and doing world tours. Having hit singles and being on Billboard charts. All that type of stuff.

Can you tell us if we’re going to get an EP or if it’s going to be an album?

It’s going to be an album and I’ve got a single dropping before the album as well.

Are you big on features or not as much?

I don’t really care about features like that. I feel like I can rap on anything and feature myself in a song.

Wrapping things up, what would you like to tell passionate music listeners and readers based in the Seattle area?

Shout out to Seattle first of all – I would like to tell them if you haven’t tapped into Black Fortune yet, you should. You don’t want to miss this train. It’s going to be a great year for me. I got good music, it’s a good vibe, it’s fun and it’s pure. If you like that type of music then tap in!
