Bobby T Is A Versatile Photographer And Videographer In The Northwest

Yo fam! Your boy Rome is back with another artist spotlight. Every month I like to highlight a little piece of what makes the PNW the place I love and cherish. This time around I would like to give a huge shout out to one of my good friends and talent behind Bobby T Photography.

Bobby T has done a few photography projects for me over the years and this piece is way overdue. One of the things I like best when it comes to Bobby T is his versatility. He’s not a one-trick pony. Every time I’ve had a question or an idea associated with photography I know that if he doesn’t know something he will spend hours researching and learning so he can teach me.

That is what I call true passion for the arts and willingness to diligently educate. Whether it is portraits, weddings, press kit photos, or video memoirs Bobby T is your guy. As always I try to keep these about the spotlighted artist, I sat down with Bobby for Real Respect Real.

Real Respects Real: Bobby T. – Photo and Video Artist

Q: What is it about photography that you love more compared to videography?

A: Our memories are imperfect. Often times what we remember versus what actually happened can be completely different. One big reason behind that is our memories are influenced heavily by our emotions. For me, that’s why I prefer still photos to video. A photograph is a single instant frozen in time. Look at a photo and it instantly floods your mind with all of those memories that you’ve created from that event. Rather than being a recording of what happened, it’s a direct link to the emotions that you felt in that moment, and the memories that you keep.

Q: What do you try to capture when you shoot events?

A: My goal has always been to capture the energy and feel of an event so that even if you didn’t attend, you can look at the photos and almost be able to hear the music, or see the production and feel the energy and emotion of the crowd. If I can do that, I’ve done a good job.

Q: Who are some photographers you look up to?

A: That’s an easy one. I have to look no further than our own city to find three of the best photographers in the business: Jason Woo, Tyler Hill, and Orhun Uygur (Turk). It was their work that first inspired me to pick up a camera and they continue to influence me.

I count myself fortunate beyond measure to be able to call them all mentors and friends. Outside of them, I’d have to throw a shout out to Will Selviz, who has produced some of the most well-known images in the electronic music world, and Joffrey Middleton Hope, who is probably the hardest hustling photographer I know.

Now Is Not The Time To Be Humble!

Q: What’s the best picture you have ever taken?

A: Besides being the photo that has been seen by the most people, this photo is one of the very, very few that I’ve known the moment that I hit the shutter release was going to be a great photo. I’ve taken countless numbers of photos where I’ve gone back and been satisfied, but this one I absolutely knew in the moment that I’d captured something special.

Q: Where can we find more info on you and your projects?

A: I lean a bit more heavily on Instagram so you can check out more of my work there @bobbytphotography. I do have a website which I’m currently re-doing. I plan on utilizing much more come the new year (it’s one of my new year’s resolutions). You can check that out at bobbytphotography.org
