Brodi White Drops First EP “I’m Really Not A Rapper” Under The Tutelage Of Jim Jones’ VL/Empire

Brodi White is a hip-hop artist and cannabis enthusiast from Mendocino, California currently living in Colorado who we interviewed a while back in the early beginning of his career. Always having a knack for music, with natural flow and writing skills, he’s known as a local spitter. He never took it seriously though till this February. We could tell then that he had a certain something, and as it turns out we weren’t the only ones.

Brodi has a sound he’s comfortable with in that hustle music lane but he’s always searching for new producers/sounds and his influences are ever-evolving. He has an open ear and that’s led him to being influenced by greats such as 50 Cent, Mendo Dope Boys, and Lil Wayne. He’s also been listening to a lot of Lil Baby and Pop Smoke too and wants to venture into more of the new era hyphy vibes.

Be A Squeaky Wheel

It didn’t take Brodi long to prove he was on to something. Having connected with a Black-owned livestreaming company called Zaplife, he entered a competition with 100 other artists. He competed in a group of about 15-20 and took first place with his song “Envy”

By winning that competition, Brodi White soon landed a placement on an upcoming Dave East tape. As many know, Dave East came up with Jim Jones, and from there a bridge began. Brodi wasn’t content with just winning that competition though, and he stuck around like a squeaky wheel; touching base with Zaplife often and taking every opportunity he could. Always eager, he worked his way up and eventually began to connect with Jim Jones himself which led to a signing with VL/Empire. This is a label known for focus on giving new artists a platform and advising them to the next levels of their careers.

“This is not a label deal. I’m giving you…I’m just giving you a platform to get your business, right. And labels look at certain things,” Jim Jones added. “And if they see that you’re already in the lane of doing good business, it even gives you a hand up when it comes to doing further business with them. ”

“Stories Of My Past, Present, And Where I’m Going”

Brodi White mixed and mastered his EP I’m Really Not A Rapper himself, with a nice playthrough of soft vibes, real shit, and street life. This mix tells his story of where he’s been and where he plans to go with his music. Not really sticking to one theme, it was more of an opportunity to show his range as an artist.

His two favorite tracks off the EP are “Envy,” a more get in your face club banger punking people out back home who were sleeping on him, and “Go!” which is more lowkey but still brings that energy.
