Bvmmer Drops Mr. Rogers Themed Music Video Before Casper Release

Bvmmer Crams Nostalgia Into His Best Video Yet Before Releasing Self-Produced Casper Album

A few weeks ago, Tacoma’s Bvmmer put out a wavy Mr. Rogers themed music video featuring Perry Porter that is sure to slap into next spring. After taking a year to fully manifest the tools necessary to make this video, Bvmmer has come to the table with something special. “Dirty” comes off his PRETTYUGLY album he put out last year. It’s worth mentioning that he produces,  mixes, and masters all of his material. In his usual spirit of dropping ample content, this video came just ahead of the release of his newest album, Casper, in mid-August.

Immediately you notice the heavy detail that’s put into the set for “Dirty.” Tim Owen, co-director, came up with the Mr. Rogers idea just a few days after the song came out. He and Bvmmer began fleshing out the idea after that. Once they had all the details on lock, they came to Joseph Abarca for his skills as a director, editor, and videographer. He was all-in from the start, so they wrote out a full script and got to work on costumes and props. Kyle Hill aka Bvmmer took over as much as he could. He told me “I handmade and painted the majority of the props, including the castle, the tunnel, and painting the trolley.”

The song comes in on an upbeat trap beat and Bvmmer crooning about the contrast of dirty girls and filthy friends. Braggadocious lyricism follows that is perfectly accentuated by the backdrop of Bvmmer spending another day in Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood. Perry Porter then comes in under the guise of his “Bobby Ro$$” persona, adding to the nostalgic PBS programming themes. It’s a fitting role for Perry, as he just put out a beautiful album under the same name. The video comes together seamlessly to accent an already perfect feel-good song for bumping with the windows down.

Watching the video you can see and feel how much fun it was to spend the day filming in a closed bar (the Airport Tavern.) Bvmmer lent special thanks to Danno, Anthony Feliciano, and other friends for helping make the video come together. You’ll also notice an appearance from fellow TacTown hustler, Blake Anthony, who frequently collaborates with Bvmmer.

Casper

Bvmmer spent the last year really learning how to EQ and mix his own music better to produce a heavier feel with Casper. On August 17th he threw a release party at the Church Cantina that had several of the local artists featured on the album such as Bujemane, Jaga, Blake Anthony, and Mirrorgloss.

The other names you’ll find on the album include Shawn Parker, Lord Narf, Coldboulder, Rob Nollan, Mac Dris, and Prayforoni. With the goal of producing heavier beats, Bvmmer also told me that Casper is meant to showcase more singing than rapping. See how Bvmmer refreshes his sound and arguably gets deep into his bag below.

On past records, you’ll find a lot more hyphy flows than his recent release. Most bars that you hear him dropping on Casper are melodic at the very least. By embracing his love for hard-tuned vocals Bvmmer has really found a niche sound for himself that is synonymous with the current tastes of many. It’s not long before one of his catchy “dark trap pop” songs hits a viral status.

Oddly enough, Bvmmer actually teamed up with award-winning Tacoma Brewery Odd Otter for his album release. His first song off Casper, “BIG DRIP” is also a grapefruit IPA that has already almost sold out. He told me he even had a hand in brewing it. Bvmmer is really out here diversifying his brand and self-producing whole-ass albums that veritably bang.
