On Thursday, up-and-coming LA duo Calabasas released their newest single “Gory Love” along with some fire new visuals. In other words, Calabasas has shown us they’re an undeniable force in the world on Pop. With this most recent release from Calabasas, it’s clear that Calabasas is only speeding up.
The morphed voice and hook in “Gory Love” gives the track a feeling that’s larger than life. Watrcup’s lyricism and Franskiiz’s exceptional production are a full-proof formula for Summer hit songs. This track is a change of pace from their previous release, “First Time Thing,” but they’re more than ready to showcase their capabilities in the Pop space.
Calabasas, formerly known as The Image, is a Los Angeles artist duo between Watcup and Franskiiz. Their bold and boisterous alternative pop includes hip-hop rhymes, electronic waves, and R&B grooves, and cinematic flourishes.
In March 2020, Calabasas caught the attention of seasoned industry mogul Bu Thiam, who is co-manager to Kanye West. Under Bu’s wing, Calabasas was flown to Cody Wyoming to write and produce for Kanye West as a test of their skills. After that, it wouldn’t be until July of 2020 where Calabasas would release their breakout single, “Believe In Me,” which found its way onto multiple Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music charts.
Above all, it’s clear that Calabasas is on a run that can’t be stopped. Above all, whether it be new music or visualizer, Calabasas knows how to deliver.
