Exclusive Interview With Cat Dealers Before Their Show At Laroc Club 6/1

The Brazilian duo, also known as the Cat Dealers are a group made up of two brothers; Lugui and Pedrão. Growing up their mother had a big heart for the stray cats in their hometown and always wanted to help out however she could. She started taking in cats she felt needed to be looked after and pretty soon the one or two cats initially turned into ten different cats living with them at their house.

Any time any of Lugui and Pedrão’s friends came over, the brothers would jokingly say “are you interested in taking one of our cats?” In short, that’s how they became known as Cat Dealers. Be sure to read through our exclusive interview with Cat Dealers ahead of their show with Nicky Romero at Laroc Club Saturday, June 1st!

1. How excited are you guys to play a sold out show with Nicky Romero at Laroc Club?

We’re super excited! The gig sold out in five hours, we couldn’t believe it! It’s gonna be amazing, we love playing at Laroc, we always have the best time there. We’re preparing a new intro and we are very excited to debut it there! Playing on the same day as Nicky Romero to a sold out venue is going to be such a great experience, we admire him a lot, so we’re really looking forward for it.

2. We’ve recently been hearing a lot of good things about Laroc. How is it to play there? What type of vibe can you typically expect?

Our experience there is great! We’ve played a couple of times at Laroc before and it always exceeded our expectations. The structure is amazing, the space, the vibe… everything! The crowd is so awesome, they’re really there for the music and they appreciate every moment. So you can expect to come away with some great experiences and memories from the club.

3. How do you guys feel about the current state of electronic music as a whole, and throughout Brazil?

Electronic music has reached a level of great relevance worldwide. It’s really great to see the public’s reaction when we’re away on our international tours. Every country has its own characteristics and we always have a great time. We really like to get to know what’s up in every city we visit, because electronic music is so vast.

As for Brazil, we’re pretty happy with the scene and how much it has grown. There are a lot of amazing producers, including some that we’ve had the pleasure of working with. It’s great to see it getting more popular and being more recognized, but there’s a long way to go yet.

4. What sort of stuff have you guys been working on? What could we expect from you in the near future?

We’re currently working on some new music, including international collabs, our next one is called “Colours & Lights,” a collaboration with Goldfish, so you can expect that; we’re really excited about this one. We’ll also continue touring around the world, including some countries that we’ve never played before, like Italy and Poland, and we’ll be back to some others that we’ve already played.

5. What has been a highlight or moment in your guys’ career that sticks out to you?

There are so many great moments we’re thankful for! We played at some of our dream festivals, such as Lollapalooza, Rock in Rio (that we will play this year for the second time), Medusa Festival, in Spain and S2O Festival in Thailand. Having the opportunity of traveling around the world and playing our music to so many different crowds is also amazing, we have already played at all five continents and we can’t wait to get to know more places! We also have to mention being on DJ Mag’s Top 100 for the second year in a row, this time as #48, for sure is one of the best moments of our career.

6. What sort of advice would you give to someone that’s just starting out in the creative field?

Every time someone asks us for a working tip, the first thing we say is study! If you truly love it and want to make a living out of it, then it’s really important to fully dedicate yourself to it and that means to study a lot. Like every career, to succeed you gotta both love what you do and always try to improve yourself.

7. Wanted to say the Vanessa da Mata – Ai Ai Ai (Felguk & Cat Dealers Remix) is extremely sick. I love that one. Where do you typically find your inspiration when creating music?

It depends a lot! Sometimes we try to create something without any idea of what we’re looking for and sometimes we already know where we’re trying to get. We sometimes also receive materials from other people, with vocals or instruments, and we start to work on it. It really depends on the day and moment.

8. Is there anyone out there that you would to love to work with on a track?

So many people haha. We admire a lot of artists and not only from the electronic scene. A person that would be a dream come true collaboration for us is Skrillex. He’s definitely one of our biggest inspirations since before we started our project, so it’d be amazing to see him working from up close and to exchange ideas with him.

9. What are some of your guys’ interests or hobbies outside of making music?

Since we spend a lot of time on the road, we always like to spend our free time with our friends and family. We also like to play video games and watch series to relax. When we’re touring, we like to get to know the cities and places we’re playing.

10. Anything you want to add or share with those in the beautiful Pacific Northwest?!

We wanna thank everyone who listens to our music! It’s such an amazing feeling knowing that there are people all around the world that admire our work. It would be awesome to play there sometime, who knows haha.
