Seattle Rock Legend Chris Cornell Passes Away At Age 52

Chris Cornell, lead singer of 90’s grunge band Soundgarden, passed away Wednesday night, according to his representative.

He was found by a family friend who went to his hotel room at the MGM Grand in Detroit, Michigan where Soundgarden played the day before. Authorities believe that his death is being investigated as a possible suicide.

Brian Bumbery, the grunge artist’s representative, made an official statement saying that Cornell’s death was “sudden and unexpected” and the singer’s wife and family are in shock.

“Black Hole Sun” – Soundgarden

Soundgarden was one of the legendary grunge bands that came out of Seattle in the 90’s, along with Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam. Chris Cornell will be the 3rd out of the four Seattle-based grunge bands to pass away.

Soundgarden’s Most Successful album was Superunknown.

Chris and his band found mainstream success after their album “Superunknown” debuted, and climbed to the #1 spot on the Billboard chart. That album features their most popular songs, “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman”.  As of 2012, Soundgarden sold more than 10.5 million records in the United States, and an estimated 22.5 million worldwide. VH1 ranked Soundgarden at number 14 in their special, 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. “
