We have plenty good to say about Coast Cannabis. In our travels through Massachusetts during Boston Cannabis Week, we visited several venerable dispensaries.
Smack dab in downtown Boston, surrounded by a dozen restaurants, stands the Ascend Boston storefront. At each Mass dispensary we visited, we searched for local brands with preceding reputations. We used this opportunity to get our hands on the notorious Coast Cannabis chocolate bars.
Available in a variety of flavors over white, dark, and milk chocolate mediums, Coast bars take the “edible” part of “infused edible” very seriously. Artisanal ingredients and meticulously sourced cacao are just two elements of their commitment to healthy, organic products that taste delicious.
Coast Cannabis Chocolate Bars
Out of a selection including raspberry, key lime pie, and birthday cake amongst others, we selected Cookies & Cream and S’mores. Each Coast Cannabis chocolate bar contains approximately 100mg of THC shaped into 5mg triangles.
Like any chocolate, we found the bars are best served chilled in a fridge or freezer. There’s a distinct flavor to Coast Cannabis chocolate bars too. Their recipe is no Hershey clone, in fact, it’s better. Even the potent THC distillate included in the recipe brings no noticeable effect to the carefully crafted flavors.
S’Mores
You’re looking at 26g of sugar and 360 calories in a single bar. The master chefs at Coast are truly committed to natural, honest origins. Coast Cannabis S’mores bars are made from single-source Peruvian milk chocolate, organic graham crackers, natural marshmallows, organic cocoa butter, and distilled cannabis (via Coast website).
As mentioned earlier, Coast Cannabis bars have outstanding flavor. We really haven’t quite tasted another chocolate exactly like this recipe; nonetheless, on a similar level to artisan chocolates and truffles. The S’mores bar in particular certainly lives up to the name. The mini marshmallows in the bar are much like those made for hot chocolate, and there’s loads of them throughout.
Cookies & Cream
It may be hard to mess up cookies & cream, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for improvement. The Coast Cannabis Cookies & Cream Bar has all-natural ingredients, 28g of sugar, and 350 calories. What first comes to mind when opening it is the sheer amount of cookie fragments in the bar.
Coast’s organic white chocolate seems to be a massive success, as it offers the most flavors out of the three types of chocolate they offer. As for the Cookies & Cream specifically, it’s S-tier in flavor. The entirety of the bar is scattered with cookie crumbles and dust, and the chocolate itself is immensely sweet and savory. Even for those looking to eat the entire bar in one sitting, taking your time is more than worth it.
Potency
As with most other edibles, Coast Cannabis chocolate takes anywhere from 1-3 hours to fully kick in, so eat yours in advance. Low tolerance and beginning users are advised to start off with a triangle (5mg) or full square (10mg). Higher doses (naturally) amplify the effects, and while they aren’t exactly discouraged, just be ready to eat a lot of chocolate.
In our experience, the brunt of the Coast Cannabis high is very apparent and couch-clinging. If you’re planning on taking more than half of the bar in one sitting, we recommend putting some time away to fully enjoy the experience. You may feel the effects of the bar for the better half of the day. This also makes taking it at night a possible recipe for slumber.
Overall, the effects of the Coast Cannabis chocolate bars are, in RMR’s accounts, well distributed and dosed reasonably throughout their ingenious chocolate recipe. This bar is perfect for anyone browsing Massachusetts dispensaries in search of top shelf chocolate edibles.

About Ascend
Ascend in Boston is a wonderful dispensary in the sense of selection and staffing. When speaking to the budtenders at the front, they were extremely knowledgeable on the items in stock, as well as currently good deals/offers.
Ascend as a whole is a four-state MSO with dispensaries in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Illinois, and Michigan.
One strange thing about the building is its smaller “mezzanine,” where non-pickup customers use tablets to browse the menu and select their products. This is the first room in the building, thus making it a bit harder to see the items you’re looking to buy beyond what pictures are available on the digital menu. This environment was not ideal to view products in person and interact with budtenders about these products. Besides this, we enjoyed our trip to Ascend and our interactions with the staff. It is a great pickup point in between downtown adventures.
