Emerald Cup Harvest Ball 2021 Announces Craft Cannabis Marketplace Featuring 30 NorCal Weed Farms

Over 30 NorCal cannabis farms will have the chance to work with Emerald Cup during this year’s Harvest Ball. The Craft Cannabis Marketplace will give local farms free exhibit spaces to show off their top cannabis products. The Marketplace will be open to attendees on December 11-12, 2021.

The Emerald Cup announced the first listing of this year’s exhibitors for the Emerald Cup Small Farms Initiative. As per their Small Farms Initiative, each participant can expect to receive a pro-bono vendor space in the Craft Cannabis Marketplace at The Emerald Cup Harvest Ball 2021 in Santa Rosa, California.

Each of the farms will offer three product SKUs for sale to festival attendees. Additionally, marketplace participants receive premium placement on the market floor to drive promotion and boost attendee support. Emerald Cup believes that the Craft Cannabis Marketplace will continue to fulfill the Small Farms Initiative promise. Not only does Harvest Ball bring immediate attention to farms, but that buzz remains long after as well.

“These small farmers form the true roots of our industry, so it means so much to me and all of us at the Emerald Cup to be able to help them succeed as our industry moves forward into a new age of cannabis production, sales, and consumption,” says Emerald Cup founder and CEO Tim Blake.

“I only wish we could help more. Each of the farms — all from historic cannabis producing regions and the Emerald Triangle area of Northern California — was chosen by lottery after being carefully vetted by our committee in terms of size and need, as well as for ethical and sustainable farming practices.”

The Small Farms Council was designed by Emerald Cup Founder Tim Blake. Alongside him are Michael Katz of the Mendocino Cannabis Alliance, Genine Coleman of Origins Council, Chris Anderson of Redwood Roots Distribution, Nicholas Smilgys of Mendocino Cannabis Distribution, and Traci Pellar of the Mendocino Producers Guild.

This council worked together with Emerald Cup to distribute licenses among Northern California cannabis-producing counties. Qualified growers were required to hold current and valid cannabis producing and cultivating licenses in California. Naturally, each farm is also expected to follow industry regulations.

Some of these include having a max farm size of 10,000 square feet and practicing strict, sustainable farming. Farms must also participate in precursor third-party certification programs such as Clean Green Certification, Regennabis, Envirocann, OCal, and Sun + Earth Certification.

Craft Cannabis Marketplace Supports Local Growers

Oftentimes, there are strict barriers to marketplace entry for new and small farm growers. As such, some find it difficult to keep up with industry regulations. This issue worsens based on the size and scale of their business.

“These smaller farms have been struggling for years due to complicated regulations, onerous taxes, limited access to retail and a volatile market,” says Council chair Michael Katz. “We are thrilled at the range of participants in this program, and the opportunity to support farms already in the licensed consumer marketplace, as well as those just engaging for the first time. The Council members are grateful to be part of this process helping small farmers share their love and respect for the cannabis plant with attendees to The Emerald Cup.”
