October Marks the Beginning of Croptober aka Outdoor Cannabis Harvest Season

Croptober is just another reason to love October. Autumn marks the beginning of harvest season for many cannabis farmers, and this month is a prime time to reap that sweet green bounty.

Croptober Marks Harvest Season for Outdoor Cannabis Cultivation

As the days get shorter, the cannabis plants begin to grow flowers. When the female cannabis plants receive less sunlight, it sends a signal to them that says, “hurry up! WINTER IS COMING! We need to be able to reproduce, before it’s too late!”

While indoor cultivators can artificially influence the amount of light plants receive, outdoor cultivators use this time to fully harvest the flowered cannabis plants.

No Risk, No Reward!

About 80% to 85% of cannabis strains are ready to harvest during Croptober. It’s a high-risk, high-reward moment for cannabis farmers. All of their preparation and work accumulates to this critical season.

“It’s an unbelievable celebratory time because everyone reaches fruition of the cycle. You get the full effect of what it’s like to have a field of cannabis releasing aromatic esters and terpenes in the air, and people get to see the quality of the finished product.”

Not Only is the Cannabis Fresh, it’s Cheap!

Although Croptober seems like it only affects the farmers who are invested in the sun-kissed flower, consumers have a lot to celebrate as well. Due to the influx of fresh flower, consumers can use winter as an opportunity to buy high-grade cannabis flower at a lower cost. In November and December, retailers become stocked to the brim with newly harvested cannabis.

“People that are on a budget, which is actually a majority of buyers, they look forward to this time because it allows you to get a better price point on the sale. The overall permitting costs of outdoor is less, and the quantity of outdoor is more, so it creates a little bit of a better margin for the farmer, and that trickles down to the buyer.”

‘Tis the Season!

There’s no better way to celebrate (or get through) the holidays than with quality cannabis at bargain deal prices. We recommend you celebrate Croptober with bright eyes, farm tours, and the enthusiasm of a kid in a candy store.
