These CryptoKitties are virtual pet cats that exist through the Ethereum network. They don’t require any love, food, or attention; so they’re perfect for people with commitment issues or a busy schedule. These cats cost a certain amount of Ethereum to buy, however a profit can be made by breeding kitties with rare traits.
Every CryptoKitty is unique due to the fact that they have a different combination of traits or ‘cattributes’. So when you breed a kitty that you think is worth a significant amount of Ethereum, then you can sell it for a profit or continue to breed the next generation.
The breeders act like Darwin, selectively breeding these CryptoKitties. This is fair game for everyone since the founders and developers aren’t allowed to participate. I’m not blatantly encouraging everyone to participate, since not everyone could flip a profit.
