Deadlyft is quickly showing with tracks like “Guns Out” why top-billed artists like Excision, Snails, and Marshmello already back this kid. His newest single definitely walks in the bass-laden footsteps of our dubstep forefathers, it hard to imagine not hearing one or two of his songs by the time next year’s festival season rolls around to steal our kid’s college funds for a weekend wristband. A quirky upbeat intro slowly builds into a roller coaster of a drop that his SoundCloud fans can’t seem to get enough of.
It’s obvious from one glance at his Soundcloud page that he doesn’t take himself too seriously. His Spotify page is labeled as Thotify, Instagram reads Nudes and his Facebook page is Fake News (kinda accurate). Reading his tongue and cheek social media links while listening to another one of his singles “Chubby Boi” just confirmed this artist’s silly approach to making music that breaks your neck.
In between the wobbles and bass, “Guns Out” interlaces pretty Marshmello-esque interludes that add bouncy melodic and horn-filled bridges inbetween the mayhem. Each drop brings different sounds and distorted patterns to keep you guessing until you press replay. Deadlyft has a strong seven-track start that sounds like it could blossom into an impressive body of work.
