Into the Depths: Jay Battle on Deck

I want to invite the readers of this article to take a moment to think about everything that lurks in the subconscious realm. Try to hyper focus on the deep and dark corners of your mind. You are now in the realm of Jay Battle………prepare for illumination.

“The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of those depths” -Elizabeth Ross

Now that you’ve been through the darkness I can illuminate you. For those of you who are still mind searching I want to shed a little bit of light (but not too much) on the PNWs talent.

Jay Battle is a multifaceted producer, rapper and sound engineer from the PNW. In the two years that I’ve known him I have come to the conclusion that there is literally nothing this guy can’t do. Through his involvement with Anomaly Music Collective and Coda I have had the opportunity to see and hear a wide variety of original sounds spew from his creative palette. Jay Battle has three main music projects that you can check out here:

Dead Rich (1/3 of the Indie Pop Band)

Kaskets (1/2 of the Hiphop/Dark instrumental duo)

If you are unfamiliar take a brief moment to listen through the selection of tracks he and his collaborators have released. One thing that I note is that there isn’t just one sound coming out of these projects. There is a Picasso-esque musical embodiment going on here. In addition to these three music projects. Jay Battle is also an entrepreneur through his work at The Battlefield doing mixing and mastering services. You’ll have to reach out to him about that though. He needs to know your real enough to take things to that level. One must be prepared to dive into the depths, to know if they can throw down. This is where we get closer to get to know the man behind the music.

Also before I forget, peep these two upcoming events you can catch my boy dropping heat at:

Q: What do you think about the current state of electronic music?

A: It’s hard to say… I haven’t reached a level of success in electronic music yet to really give a honest opinion on the insides and outs of it. But what I can say is There are more ways than ever to make, listen to, enjoy electronic music than ever before and all in all that’s a good thing. I wish dark music was more in style on the popular field but I feel like dark music will get our turn again.

Q: Your sound is very diverse. Where do you draw inspiration from for your music?

A: Honestly I draw inspiration from my peers, the people that I work with through Anomaly, CODA  and the artists that I produce and engineer for.  I see everybody working really hard around me and it just makes you want to work as hard if not harder.
Q: Anything exciting coming up for you?
A: Right now I’m really working on a bunch of Dead Rich singles, a new Kaskets album,  multiple Qreepz  produced EP’s etc. I’m also working on other projects with artists in my studio.  A few CODA releases, a few Anomaly releases, shit!  It’s hard to say what to look out for, just follow me and follow everything I’m doing! Muahahahaha!!!
Break Down of Projects

Qreepz: Qreepz a Producer/DJ, that makes complex, aggressive bass music with melodic overtones. Consider him the Stanley Kubrick of music production. Very clean, forward thinking, experimental style with a splash of red. Qreepz can represent all things fear. Qreepz can be about facing your fears.

Dead Rich: The band’s sound is generally a mix of infectious Choruses, colorfully harmonic vocals and Deep & Distorted Rhythms with Provocative Sound Design and Melodies. Drawing comparisons to artists/bands such as Grimes, Phantogram, Odeza, Purity Ring, Churches, The Knife and Broods.

Kaskets: known principally for their hip hop and instrumental music, made with a mixture of live instrumentation and sampling. Dark, ominous and shoegaze to its core

Q: One last question or I guess two haha. What does music do for you? Why did you decided to pursue it?

A: Music does everything for me! It gives me all the vitamins I could ever need from any one thing. There are so many different things I’m able to do with music and within music. And It gives me an opportunity to learn about myself all the time.

Originally I chose it as a career because i was lazy, it was something that I could do that was fairly effortless that I could get paid for, and I hated working 9-to-5 jobs for other people. But after being in business and working for as long as I have new things motivate me in my career and that’s helping people with their art, and pushing the limits of what I am able to accomplish.

That’s it for this one people! Check out the link below for more information. Get those collaborations in before he blows up!
