Listen To Disaster Relief's Self-Titled Album Review

Album Review: Disaster Relief’s Self-Titled Album

Disaster Relief sounds like a potential punk/emo band name, so I was surprised and mildly disappointed to find out that it was actually a jazz collective. I’ll be honest and say that I’m not the biggest jazz fan, so all the tracks were a big blend of sounds to me. However, I enjoyed the classic funk that the band plays.

Disaster Relief is a jazz-funk band from Ann Arbor, Michigan, with musical influences from the Memphis style soul to some old-fashioned James Brown-inspired funk. What started as a weekly instrumental jam session by the band eventually morphed into a writing and recording workshop. Eventually, they amassed a large collection of original songs over time.

As the title of the album suggests, the band is coming to save us from disaster. With all the tragedy and negativity in the world, Disaster Relief provides the soundtrack to a funky good time for all.
