Disc Golf has experienced a tremendous amount of growth over the course of the pandemic. Last year saw a pause on some tournaments while the Professional Disc Golf Association figured out how to navigate various regulations. Now, locally run doubles have made their return, and tournaments are in full swing. At least four world-class courses are within an hour’s drive of Portland and the Rose City will play host to the Disc Golf Pro Tour June 4-6.
Glendoveer Golf Course will be the location for the Disc Golf Pro tour this weekend in Portland. The pro tour is comprised of the best male and female disc golfers in the world. Portland will be the fifth stop of the tour. Competitors have the chance at winning their share of a $55,000 purse. Glendoveer Golf Course is one of the latest courses to host a round of disc golf or install permanent baskets.
Like ball golf, Disc Golf requires players to get their frisbee-like disc into a basket in a certain number of throws or “strokes.” For the pros playing this weekend, the goal will be to do that in as few strokes as possible.
This tournament features a few Pacific Northwest locals that could use your support if you’re around Portland this weekend. Due to COVID restrictions, social distancing is expected and there is a limit on the number of spectators allowed each day.
Tickets can be purchased here. Hopefully, this opens the potential for more national-level disc golf tournaments in Portland and the rest of the Pacific Northwest.
