Disclosure - Energy Album Cover

Disclosure’s ‘Energy’ Shows Appreciation Rather Than Appropriation

Disclosure, the British electronic duo, is tapping back into the culture – this time to deliver Energy. The album is set to arrive Friday, August 28th. Energy has the pair revisiting the previously established R&B-driven sound from their 2015 effort, Caracal. In addition to the newly released track featuring Syd and Kehlani, other guest appearances include Aminé, Kelis, Common, and more. It’s refreshing to see White artists collaborating and creating with, instead of appropriating Black culture and its influence.

Ahead of the album release the group shared the infectious track “Birthday” and shared their inspiration with Apple Music. “We wrote the song with Syd originally, and we were definitely going on that Brandy, Monica, and Aaliyah vibe; that was just how we were all feeling that day.”

“And then we decided halfway through writing it, we were like, you know what, this would actually be great as a duet. So who should we get on it? And she was like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I’ll just get Kehlani.’ We were like, yeah, that’s fine. But also, people say that stuff a lot in sessions and it never happens. So we just went like, yeah, sure, thinking that’s not going to happen. And then two weeks later, it was just in the inbox.”

The group also included a surprise VIP remix, providing a more dance floor friendly for the day the clubs open back up.

Get More Disclosure

In preparation for the album dropping, Disclosure recently shared the playback from an exclusive DJ set for Cercle. The stunning set was streamed live from the Plitvice Lakes National Park, in Croatia. It’s an insanely beautiful vibe and takes their “Big Tree Energy” saying to an entirely new level.

Can’t get enough Disclosure? Disclosure is keeping the Energy flowing with their “Big Tree Energy” podcast, now streaming on Apple Music.
