DJ K-Phi is an artist out of Tacoma, Washington, who many of you may recognize as the official DJ for local rising star Clemm Rishad. But he does a lot more than just that. He has his own successful solo career, having produced for major talents such as Tyga, Kevin Gates, DaBaby, and Mozzy. As if that wasn’t a nice enough rap sheet, he has also toured with greats such as Lil Wayne and Boosie BadAzz.
A little over a year ago, K-Phi released a track titled “Raise Hell” featuring Tacoma legends Lewie and King Leez. It’s a powerful track that sits right in that sweet spot of being something that you can slap but also provides depth lyrically, as well. “Raise Hell” was a major local success and is still a favorite among many today. With a bouncy beat, infectious hook, and storytelling lyrics, it really is the whole package for a smash hit.
“I Got Some Stone Cold Medusas On My Mind”
Recently, DJ K-Phi released his single, “Medusa,” featuring Waxtheproducer and Rocky Sandoval. It is a slower-paced vibe about the trap they call love and the downfall that can come from it. We have all been in the position where someone seems to have switched up out of nowhere. Oftentimes this is just that person showing their true colors, and if you’re lucky you can cut ties and move on with no problems. But, it isn’t always that easy, and sometimes you can get caught up in the emotions of thinking you love someone but not loving what they’ve become.
“Medusa” plays heavily on this ethos, starting the track with a ghostly voice melodically singing, “we’re not where we’re supposed to be.” This is like a stalling relationship that seemed to have once had endless possibilities. Wax and Rocky absolutely kill this track vocally, bringing an emotional energy that’s palpable through the speakers.
