DJ Short Blueberry From Rosebud Growers Is Classically Fruity And Loud

I can’t remember the last time I got to smoke some potent and pure DJ Short Blueberry. This strain is literally a legend, and on the West Coast DJ Short’s cultivar is the namesake. From his travels around Southeast Asia and Central America, he’d come to gather diverse landrace genetics he’d later cultivate into some of the most iconic strains ever. In this regard, I feel like it’s a hard strain to live up to if you don’t get it just right, and many people have tried. Rosebud Growers out of Portland have taken on this endeavor, and in my opinion, have hit the sweet spot.

When I swirled open the lid of the little Mason jar that the delectable kush came in I got a solid whiff of the blueberry scent I was hoping for. Myrcene is the mack daddy terpene in this strain and lends to all of its flavor and sedative effects. Floral and berry flavor profiles come from this terpene, and it can also be found in mangos, lemongrass, and thyme. The other two terps you get with DJ Short Blueberry are caryophyllene and pinene. With that in mind, I was searching for a strong berry taste with a spicy, piney kick. I mostly caught all these smells before I cracked open a nug.

The coloration of these nugs was incredible. Dark, moody purple buds hit me in a way that honestly took on a blue-ish hue. This weed honestly looked a little blue. It was from this dark coloration that the trichomes sat on top of the nugs like fresh snowfall. Rosebud’s cultivar of this strain isn’t super high in THC, so all of my hopes went into the fact that they were hunting for flavor.

DJ Short Blueberry by Rosebud Growers

Rosebud Growers have an interesting curing process that makes their cannabis very easy to break down by hand. I’m not saying the nugs were brittle and falling apart, but they were able to have full trichome heads, as well as dense buds, but they didn’t stick to the stem. I like weed like that. When I broke the nug apart I got immediately hit with a blast of berry, and a little of the peppery pine smell. I swear there was a bit of a mango scent in there too.

After rolling it up into a democratically-sized joint and going outside to rip away it took me back to high school. I got hit with a delicious, yet spicy blueberry flavor that made me cough like it was my first time. The high that came afterward was like a reward for a hard day’s work. It got me through the last of my work and told me it was ok to call it a night. Rosebud Growers did a commendable job of upholding this strain’s famous lineage.
