The Green Fiction App Houses An Entire Cannabis-Infused Digital Universe

A good share of cannabis marketing begins and ends with stamping jars with a social media handle and a few Instagram posts. In a world of dull and reductive cannabis marketing ideas, Green Fiction stands far outside of the box as a multimedia IP that has massive cannabis marketing potential built into its foundation.

Green Fiction folds cannabis into its very fabric and utilizes the plant as a vital part of the business model and the content itself. Cannabis is used creatively in the story telling which naturally invites opportunities for innovative marketing solutions within the cannabis industry. Each episode or comic is named after its real life cannabis strain. This gives the Green Fiction team opportunities to collaborate with licensed cannabis brands in Washigton state and beyond to grow cannabis seen in their video games and comic books. It also has the ability to serve as a marketing platform for cannabis brands or influencers who are looking to step outside of cliche and tired marketing schemes.

Green Fiction’s Transmedia Universe

TJ Walker designed Green Fiction as a transmedia universe and put it all into a mobile app. Trans-media is a narrative extending beyond multiple forms of media with interactive elements such as augmented reality.

Opening the Green Fiction app instantly throws you into a sprawling sci-fi world. It sucks you in with enticing visuals and sounds that can be felt through your phone’s haptic feedback. The user interface is colorful and easy to navigate; each type of content has its own tab on the app’s browser bar.

Whether you want to watch new episodes of their live-action television show, or animations, buy merch, read the comic book, or play their mobile video game, the app’s user interface (UI) makes it easy to get where you want to go.

$10 a month unlocks access to the entire slate of Green Fiction content. These “cannabis-infused sci-fi stories” are experienced through live-action tv episodes, animation, comic books, video games, and augmented reality features.

One story set in Green Fiction’s universe finds a select group of police officers trying to steal new strains of super-powered cannabis from the cartel. These cannabis strains give their users incredible meta-human abilities. Both sides will go to extreme lengths to secure the powerful plants.

Tacoma Connection

Many of Stephen King’s plethora of stories take place in small dreary towns much like the one he was born in – Portland, Maine. TJ Walker compared Tacoma to King’s Maine when he was talking to Mitch Pfeifer on episode 64 of the RMR Podcast. Walker, along with fellow Green Fiction creators Shane P the Mogul and Kimberly Perry, all have deep Tacoma roots. They spoke about the importance of putting Tacoma on the map as Green Fiction continues to rise in popularity.

This doesn’t only include speaking on and gassing up Tacoma during interviews and media scrims – they’re using Tacoma’s neighborhoods as set pieces in their stories. They also use the Green Fiction brand as an opportunity to collaborate with other Tacoma artists and talent. Shane mentioned that he spoke with Tacoma rapper Lewie about collaborating with his cannabis brand, KushHouse – which itself is deeply rooted in Tacoma culture and lore.

Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood serves as the setting for Green Fiction’s video game XE Strain. The game stars Tee Grizzly as a smuggler breaking into the Hilltop quarantine zone to steal the highly coveted XE strain of cannabis. The smugglers must fight their way through hordes of infected creatures and avoid the authorities to secure a cannabis strain that is worth millions on the black market.

Staying Ahead of the Tech Curve

The Green Fiction team created the first and only virtual production studio in Tacoma. This type of space allows them to capture big studio production values and animation quality in the comfort of their community. Walker mentioned Unreal Engine, motion capture suits, LED walls, and artificial intelligence as a few different types of technology they have access to. The studio will also act as a space for local Tacoma creators to use the virtual production tech to execute and showcase their own digital ideas.

Green Fiction is already expanding outside of their sci-fi beginnings as we speak. Walker talked about a comedy, currently in development, that’s set in a cannabis dispensary. They also have a merchandise store that is live. Be sure to download the app to stay connected to the entire Green Fiction universe.
