Grieves is back for the first time since ‘Winter & the Wolves,’ his 2014 album. ‘RX’ is the first single from is upcoming album ‘Running Wild,’ which drops August 25.
“In RX, I tackle a very close-to-home subject in a new and foreign soundscape. Breaking the confounds of my ‘expected’ I find a lot of peace in this song. It’s deep, it’s intoxicating, and it’s honest. Drink it in.” -Grieves
‘RX’ is another dark and poetic story about Grieves’ battles with substance abuse. It’s right in tune with his style, but his flow and singing sound more crisp and refined than ever before.
Grieves – ‘Running Wild’
“On Running Wild, Grieves teamed up with Swedish producer Chords. Together, the two have produced a modernized sound that is lush and intoxicating, pairing punchy drums with thick layers of synths and warm bass lines, all accented by soulful keys, horns, or guitars,” per Rhymesayers.com
This will be Grieves’ third full album with Rhymesayers, a Minnesota-based Hip-hop label that houses other popular artists like Atmosphere, MF Doom, and Brother Ali. Grieves has crafted out his niche on a powerful Rhymesayers roster with a dark and moody style about love, loss, and the demons of life. It will be interesting to see how ‘Running Wild’ expands Grieves sound with Chords adding his talents. Check out Chords’ work here, ‘The Dude’ sounds like something Grieves’ could flow over beautifully.
