Healing Spells recently dropped his second EP titled “Sanctuary.” Healing Spells hails from Tokyo, Japan, although he claims that a three-month visit to India has had a large inspirational impact on his music. He had the following to say about his travels and musical inspiration for creating his latest EP:
“I have been living for 6 years and counting in Japan, but the decisive experience came from 3 months I spent in India, where I was overwhelmed mentally and physically by the harshness and spirituality of the country. It has become my main source of inspiration since then. I am also inspired by quiet walks in nature, Buddhist temples in the mountains, and sci-fi books.
Healing Spells – “Sanctuary”
All in all, the “Sanctuary” EP is weird, quirky, and imaginative, in a big way. Listening, I hear a jungle/nature, ambient, trippy, and unpredictable vibe. Healing Spells’ last EP “Past Lives” is an uplifting and colorful piece that is also worth a listen. Past Lives has a bit more of a progressive edge to it, however, it still has a nature-inspired feel to it.
Healing Spells draws similarity to groups such as Point Never, Forest Swords, Clap! Clap!, Gold Panda, Four Tet, The Field, and OneOhtrix. If you’re a fan of IDM or experimental, you should give this EP a listen!
