Hot Music Friday – March 24, 2023

“2 Many” – Tripstar

One of Bread Gang Entertainment’s hottest new stars, this South Memphis spitter has been on the rise ever since he joined forces with Moneybagg Yo. Tripstar is just getting started and the career that lies ahead of him is ripe with promise. Have a taste of his brilliance here and you’ll be hooked. We’re vouching for him and so should you!

“Peso a Peso” – Eladio Carrión (feat. Quavo, Rich The Kid, Ñengo Flow)

This crossover, in addition to featuring some of the biggest names in music today, is bustling with flavor. A hybrid of the best kind, “Peso a Peso” is fresh out of the kitchen and ready to serve the masses. We consider it our duty to spread the good word on Hot Music Friday, so there was no way we were going to leave this one out!

“One Life” – KOTA The Friend & Statik Selektah

Muffled beats and finger snaps with some keys sprinkled in between — Statik Selektah got it down. With KOTA The Friend’s smooth delivery over it, we got a divine work of art on our hands. This is a prime example of hip-hop that just works for everyone.

“Nasty” – Russ

If you like Russ, you’ll love this one. Forever nice with it on the mic, the New Jersey native hops over this bass-heavy instrumental with his trademark fluency. In under two minutes, he puts on display everything we champion about him — flow, lyrics and tasteful beat selection. A classic Russ track will always have a place in our Hot Music Friday list.

“SCREAM” – Whyte Fang (feat. Erick the Architect)

If Alison Wonderland bringing back her Whyte Fang alias wasn’t exciting enough, her new collaboration with Flatbush Zombies producer and MC Erick the Architect will have you feeling ecstatic. The production value on this joint feels almost too powerful, but hey, no one’s complaining. It’s always a treat to hear two forces blend into one and create something otherworldly.

“No Reason” – The Chemical Brothers

This English duo is the reason electronic music is where it’s at today. With that in mind, it’s a thrill to see the veterans still bringing that same energy that put them on the map in the first place. The Chemical Brothers turn the energy up on this new release — if you plan on going hard this weekend, make sure you have this one in rotation.

“Unfold” – Melody’s Echo Chamber

French musician Melody Prochet embodies the magic of dream pop and psychedelic rock. Her music casts a spell on listeners, and “Unfold” demonstrates exactly why that is the case. A decade into her career, she continues to give us one whimsical gem after another. With her around, life always feels like a celebration.

Stay tuned for our coverage of Melody’s Echo Chamber’s show in Los Angeles next week.

“Interior People” – King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

This Australian six-piece is arguably one of the busiest outfits of the modern rock era. Aside from putting out a bunch of music, they have also maintained a ridiculously high standard through it all. We recognize their brilliance and had to shout them out this Hot Music Friday. For you, we’re hoping “Interior People” acts as a gateway to their outstanding catalog. Thank us later!

Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd – Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey’s music pretty much speaks for itself, so we’re just here to co-sign it. If you weren’t already planning on listening to her new album as soon as it drops, here’s a little nudge from us to clear your schedule. The New York singer-songwriter has only ever produced stellar results throughout her career, so there’s no reason for us to think it will be any different this time.

Keep an eye out for our review of the new album!

Scaring the Hoes, Vol. 1 – Danny Brown & JPEGMAFIA

Not for everyone — that’s Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA in a nutshell. However, those who do get behind these two professional disruptors swear by them and for a damn good reason. This collaborative record is a huge deal because it will truly turn the music space upside down and make you reevaluate what music even means. If you can handle it, tune in, if not, just listen to all the other great music we’ve picked out for you this Hot Music Friday. But if you’re feeling a little adventurous, we highly recommend you at least give it a shot.
