Hot Music Friday May 12

Hot Music Friday Featuring Coi Leray, Zombie Juice, Mac Demarco and More

We’re halfway through May already so let’s keep the momentum steady with another Hot Music Friday. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been throwing a lot of tracks your way. Though we’re going to keep doing that, our team has decided to put you on some solid albums as well this time around.

From Coi Leray to Mac Demarco to Lee Fields, we’ve covered quite the range this week, so check it out!

Hot Music Friday – May 12, 2023

“Bops” – Coi Leray

Good luck trying to hold Coi Leray down because hate only energizes her more. Her career thus far has proven this time and time again, so you’re best off admitting that she’s onto something. Don’t know what we’re talking about? Listen to “Bops” and you’ll understand immediately. There’s a damn good reason we opened Hot Music Friday with this one.

“Trials & Tribulations” – AKTHESAVIOR (feat. Zombie Juice)

It’s rare to come across music wherein the bars and production are both a 10. It’s rare but not unheard of. With that in mind, you can’t scroll any further without peeping this collaboration between AKTHESAVIOR and Zombie Juice from Flatbush Zombies.

“Nudista Mundial ‘89” – Alan Palomo (feat. Mac Demarco)

Alan Palomo is best known for fronting Neon Indian, but he’s now trying something slightly different. We’re not sure what exactly to call it, but his debut single as a solo artist is fun and colorful … and it features Mac Demarco. We know a great recipe when we see one, so here is our formal endorsement for Hot Music Friday. Have a taste!

“Waiting on the Sidelines” – Lee Fields

Lee Fields has been at for a minute now. At 73, the American soul singer boasts a career that has spanned over fifty years, but you won’t know he’s been around this long if you listen to his current music. He still sounds fresh, and his standards have only increased with time. No one has been able to figure out how he’s still this phenomenal, but we’re just happy he’s still out here making music.

F65 – IDK

Rapper, singer and producer IDK has the people on his side. Just when the world needed him the most, he came through with a 22-track record to put the world as we know it under a microscope. Powerful and poetic as ever, F65 is a testament to the Maryland artist’s greatest and longevity.

WON’T HE DO IT – Conway the Machine

No one’s really surprised when Conway the Machine drops new music because he does it all the time. Still, it never ceases to stir up excitement. This is because his brand value has never diminished, and he’s remained focused despite his colossal success. He’s given us yet another classic, so there’s no way we weren’t going to shout it out on Hot Music Friday.

Road to CASABLANCO – Armani White

When Armani White dropped “Silver Tooth” last month, it became clear that his upcoming album was going to be straight fire. Sure enough, he not only lived up to the expectations but exceeded them beyond everyone’s imagination. You can’t really complain about mainstream music getting boring when such artists exist; all you have to do is look. But just in case you don’t have the time, we got you covered.

If Looks Could Kill – Destroy Lonely

Here’s a polarizing pick we had to include this Hot Music Friday. Atlanta prodigy Destroy Lonely has finally dropped his highly anticipated debut album and it’s the talk of the town — some people hate it, some people love it, but it is the center of attention right now. If you haven’t already, check it out to see if it works for you or not.

never worry – Snakehips

We got another debut record people have been waiting for. British production duo Snakehips took their time, but we can now see why. The genre-fluid never worry LP was worth the wait — it’s clear from just one listen that Oliver Lee and James Carter put in the effort to ensure this project came out right, and we can now confirm that it did. The album’s A-list supporting cast comprises Daya, Earthgang, BIA, Lucky Daye, Duckwrth, Tinashe, Kilo Kish, Nicole Millar, MadeinTYO, Rochelle Jordan, Tkay Maidza, AG Club and Bryce Vine. Can you think of any reason to not press play?
