Instagram’s “Swipe Up” Feature Is Being Replaced With Tappable Stickers

Instagram is certainly not the friendliest app when it comes to link sharing. For most users, their biography is the only spot to place a clickable link. Otherwise, users that are verified or have 10k+ followers enjoy an additional place for hyperlinks—the coveted swipe-up feature in Instagram stories.

Starting Monday, August 30th, this feature will change. Replacing the Instagram story swipe-up feature will be a tappable sticker where users can place a link to be easily accessed by viewers.

The changes made may seem only slight, but the impact is certainly there. In terms of customization, stickers allow for more creative freedom, specifically regarding placement and design. Additionally, the link can be more enticing to click depending on the visuals surrounding it. Aka, this feature is a beast for marketing and sales if you combine it with other Instagram story features.

Instagram offers almost endless story options including thousands of stickers and the ability to draw in basically every color. Companies and individuals (and especially music artists) can certainly find higher click rates if they fully optimize their stories with features like the new tappable link sticker on Instagram.

Another huge key difference is that users are able to reply to stories that utilize the new link sticker. Whereas, stories that used the swipe up feature were not able to receive replies directly to that story.

Random Accounts Already Have Access

It seems as of now some accounts have received access to the new feature already. Based on the multiple accounts we compared and the one that has the feature prematurely, there is certainly no rhyme or reason as to why certain users have early access. Regardless, the many users that are verified or have 10k+ followers will be able to take advantage of this new feature in just a couple of days.

For now, Instagram says that they will be continuously evaluating this new feature. Depending on how well it performs, they may decide to roll it out to even more users. In the meantime, excluded users can take advantage of link trees which allow multiple links to be featured inside just one link.
